Job Description

Linn-Mar Aquatic Center is a prominent athletic facility dedicated to fostering competitive swimming and aquatic activities within the community. With a focus on both youth development and event management, the center serves as a hub for age group swim training and a venue for various swim competitions including middle school, high school, and club-level meets. It operates under the Athletics/Operations and Maintenance Department and is managed by an Aquatic Center Manager who oversees daily operations. The center is committed to providing a structured and positive environment for athletes, families, coaches, and the wider community, emphasizing safety, athlete progression, and professional event coordination.

The role of Aquatic Center Age Group Development Coordinator and Event Coordinator is a critical position within the Linn-Mar Aquatic Center. This full-time position requires a dedicated professional who will lead the development and performance of the swim team’s Age Group program, which includes Prep, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum groups. The coordinator is responsible for designing comprehensive seasonal training plans that emphasize technical skill development, long-term athlete retention, and progression towards competitive success at senior levels. Furthermore, this role involves management and organization of aquatic events hosted at the facility, ensuring that middle school, high school, and club competitions are conducted efficiently and to professional standards.

In addition to coaching duties, the coordinator provides leadership and supervision to assistant coaches and volunteers associated with the Age Group program. The position demands regular communication with the Aquatic Center Manager and Youth Swim Team Coordinator to report on team status, operational issues, and any safety concerns. A significant part of the role is to serve as a liaison ensuring a seamless aquatic pathway connecting swim lessons, age group development, and senior swimming program phases.

The coordinator also oversees athlete entries for meets, including managing deadlines, selection processes, and logistics to optimize team participation in competitions. Event management responsibilities include planning staffing, overseeing meet logistics, coordinating volunteer involvement, and maintaining facility readiness for events. The position requires a professional committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, coaching ethics, and athlete welfare.

Maintaining certifications in USA Swimming coaching, CPR/AED, First Aid, and SafeSport training is mandatory, with preferred additional certifications including ASCA coaching, lifeguarding, and pool operation. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and extensive competitive swim coaching experience, ideally with a history of managing age group swim programs. The role involves physical capabilities to perform coaching and event duties in aquatic environments, including endurance for standing, walking, swimming, and emergency response in wet and humid conditions.

Summarily, the Aquatic Center Age Group Development Coordinator and Event Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the growth and sustainability of Linn-Mar’s aquatic programs. This position demands a combination of technical coaching expertise, leadership skills, event management acumen, and collaborative approach to enhance athlete development and deliver successful aquatic events within the community.
