Job Description

The Detroit Foundation Hotel, a distinguished independent hotel located in the historic Detroit Fire Department Headquarters, has become an iconic representation of Detroit's ongoing renaissance. This 100-room establishment embraces the city’s rich heritage while steering it towards a future as a prominent national center for culture, business, and the arts. At the heart of the hotel is The Apparatus Room, a vibrant ground-floor restaurant that partners with local distillers, brewers, farmers, and artisans to craft an authentic Detroit experience. Managed by Aparium Hospitality Services, a company founded in 2011, the hotel is part of a unique hospitality brand that blends the sophistication of large-scale hotel operations with the charm and personalized touch of boutique hotels. Aparium is committed to celebrating the distinctive character of every city it serves and fostering an inclusive culture that honors the values of People, Place, and Character.

The Apparatus Room Barista is an essential member of the Food and Beverage team, reporting directly to the Director of Food and Beverage. As a non-exempt role, this position demands a strong foundation in the art and science of coffee and tea preparation, environmental clean habits, and exceptional guest service skills. Baristas at The Apparatus Room are entrusted with creating memorable guest experiences, ensuring that each visitor's day begins with a perfect cup of coffee and a warm smile. The role emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and active participation in the dynamic hotel environment, which includes servers, bartenders, chefs, and other hospitality professionals. The ideal candidate is passionate about coffee culture, dedicated to community engagement, and skilled at delivering high-quality beverages consistently and efficiently.

Beyond beverage crafting, the role involves adhering to company values and principles, handling cash transactions accurately, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Baristas are also expected to share their extensive knowledge of coffee with guests and contribute actively during team meetings and training sessions. They play a vital role in fostering a positive work culture characterized by humility, open-mindedness, and collaboration without egos. The Detroit Foundation Hotel and Aparium Hospitality Services value an inclusive and equitable work environment and uphold non-discriminatory hiring practices. They promote employee growth and pride in their community, aligning with the hotel’s local character and charm. The Apparatus Room Barista position offers an exciting opportunity for hospitality professionals who are passionate about coffee and community, seeking to contribute to a distinctive hotel experience in a culturally rich urban setting.
