Job Description
Petco is a leading pet specialty retailer that has proudly served pet parents and their beloved companions for more than 60 years. With over 1,500 stores across the United States, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, along with more than 250 Vetco Total Care hospitals and numerous preventive care clinics, Petco is truly where the pets go to find everything they need to live their best lives. Petco not only offers a wide variety of quality pet products such as nutritious meals, engaging toys, and trusted supplies, but it also provides expert support from people who are passionate about pets and understand the unique joys and challenges of pet parenthood. The company embodies a deep commitment to animal welfare and community engagement, notably through its philanthropic initiative, Petco Love, which supports thousands of animal welfare groups nationwide and has facilitated the adoption of around 7 million animals through in-store adoption events.
As a Companion Animal Supervisor at Petco, you will be a vital leader responsible for the health, care, and presentation of live animals within the Companion Animal and Aquatics departments. This role emphasizes combining a strong commitment to pet welfare with operational excellence and business acumen to foster a thriving environment for both pets and customers. Overseeing animal health and safety is paramount, alongside driving sales, improving customer experiences, and maintaining high standards of operational discipline. You will guide and influence your team by coaching partners to deliver knowledgeable, compassionate care and exceptional service, fostering a workplace culture that values inclusion, teamwork, and a shared passion for pets.
This position requires balancing the art of animal care with the science of retail business management. You will utilize data and trends to analyze opportunities and implement solutions that enhance both animal welfare and business performance. The role includes managing live animal inventory efficiently to optimize health and sales goals, supporting omni-channel retail strategies like buy-online-pickup-in-store (BOPUS) and ship-from-store services, and stepping into leadership duties when needed to ensure seamless Pet Care Center operations. The Companion Animal Supervisor actively models leadership behaviors and exemplifies Petco’s core values which prioritize pets’ needs, celebrate the joy of pet parenthood, and foster a strong, unified team.
The work environment for this role is primarily in a Pet Care Center retail setting, requiring frequent hands-on engagement with animals, customers, and team partners. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing and walking for extended periods, and exposure to animal-related elements such as dander and cleaning chemicals. Flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is necessary to support Petco’s operational needs. As an employer, Petco is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities and ensuring equal employment opportunity regardless of background or status.
With hourly pay ranging from $21.50 to $33.50 depending on experience, location, and applicable wage laws, and access to comprehensive benefits including health and financial wellness programs, Petco offers a meaningful career path for those passionate about making a difference in pets’ lives while growing their professional skills in a supportive and fun environment.
