Mattel is currently seeking a Lead Restaurant (Supervisor) to join the full-service restaurant team at the American Girl New York City retail store. This position is a part-time, benefit-eligible role requiring 37.5 hours per week. The salary for this role ranges between $21.00 and $23.00 per hour, commensurate with the candidate's education, skills, and experience. The Lead Restaurant role plays a crucial part in maintaining the high standards of service and operational excellence that the American Girl restaurant is known for.
The Lead Restaurant Supervisor will work closely with the Restaurant Manager to oversee all aspects of daily restaurant operations, ensuring a seamless, engaging dining experience for guests. This role demands a keen ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while possessing a solid understanding of both front-of-house and back-of-house functions. The successful candidate will be adept at balancing multiple responsibilities, from supervising staff and managing inventory, to maintaining food quality and enforcing safety protocols.
This position involves direct interaction with customers, which requires strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. The Lead Restaurant Supervisor will be responsible for resolving customer and staff issues with grace and professionalism, ensuring that every guest leaves with a positive impression. Additionally, the role is integral to supporting the Restaurant Leadership Team in managing staffing needs, hiring, coaching, and vendor relations.
Moreover, the Lead Restaurant Supervisor will contribute to departmental financial goals by assisting in revenue and expense management. They will also collaborate with store management to deliver unique events and programs that enhance the in-store experience. Given the technological demands of the role, proficiency with restaurant management software such as POS systems, Guestbridge reservations, InfoGenesis, and other related technologies is highly valued.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous restaurant supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Basic computer proficiency
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage and resolve conflicts diplomatically
- Physical ability to walk, stand, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Commitment to upholding food safety and sanitation standards
Job Qualifications
- Restaurant experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, with both front and back of house operations exposure, preferred
- Experience working with children, preferred
- Current State Sanitation Certification, ServSafe, and Safe Alcohol Consumption Certification, preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Eatec system, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), InfoGenesis/Universal Desktop, Guestbridge reservation systems, JTech paging system, POS systems, inventory systems, and basic office equipment (copiers and fax), preferred
- Ability to perform diverse physical tasks including constant walking and standing, and some heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
Job Duties
- Support the restaurant leadership team in overseeing staffing, hiring, coaching/training, purchasing/vendor relations, inventories, maintaining food/beverage service standards, and ensuring safety and sanitation standards
- Assist the team in achieving department revenue and expense goals
- Ensure customer satisfaction with their dining experience and oversee resolution of any customer service issues
- Ensure food quality and consistency, special requests and special dietary needs and perform tasks in absence of the restaurant leadership team
- Work with restaurant and store management teams to deliver exceptional events and programs
- Maintain ongoing communications with both staff and management
- Maintain and troubleshoot operational issues including restaurant/kitchen equipment, Guestbridge reservation, POS, and InfoGenesis software systems
- Lead by example in all areas of the business
