Job Description
Mattel, Inc. is a global leader in the toy manufacturing and entertainment industry, known for producing iconic brands that inspire, entertain, and develop children through play. Founded in 1945, Mattel has built a strong reputation as a trusted partner in empowering children to explore the wonder of childhood and reach their full potential. The company operates in 35 locations worldwide, with its products available in over 150 countries through partnerships with leading retail and e-commerce companies. Among its diverse portfolio of beloved brands are Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price, American Girl, Thomas & Friends, UNO, and MEGA, alongside other popular intellectual properties licensed in collaboration with global entertainment companies. Mattel’s offerings extend beyond toys to include film and television content, gaming, music, and live events, allowing the company to engage consumers in multiple dynamic ways.
Mattel emphasizes a culture of creativity, inclusion, and innovation, striving to create products and experiences that resonate with children and families globally. The company prides itself on fostering a workplace where every team member feels respected, valued, and encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work. Mattel has been recognized as a Great Place to Work for two consecutive years and was named one of Fast Company’s Best Workplaces for Innovators in 2022. As an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer, Mattel actively promotes diversity and inclusion across its workforce, welcoming candidates from a variety of backgrounds, including minorities, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
This particular role is with American Girl, a premium brand under the Mattel umbrella that focuses on delivering enriching and joyful experiences for girls through dolls and associated products. The American Girl Retail Team is looking to hire a Part-Time Party Planner to join their vibrant and dedicated team. This role is pivotal in creating memorable party experiences within the American Girl Bistro, where the Party Planner works closely with party guests to ensure every event is magical and meets the high standards set by American Girl.
The Part-Time Party Planner position involves coordinating and executing all aspects of party events, working to create a seamless and enjoyable experience for both children and their families. The role requires superior communication skills, exceptional organization, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment. The planner is responsible for greeting guests, explaining event details, taking and delivering food and beverage orders, managing the ambiance, and ensuring all party activities—from games and crafts to doll hair styling and skin care—are executed flawlessly. Attention to detail and a warm, friendly demeanor are essential, as the planner plays a key role in ensuring customer satisfaction and addressing any issues in a gracious and professional manner.
Additionally, this role includes meeting sales goals, managing vendor relationships, and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations. The Party Planner also supports operational tasks such as restocking, cleaning, and managing transactions with a thorough understanding of the InfoGenesis system. Training and assisting teammates is also part of the position, fostering teamwork and operational excellence across the retail space.
The role requires a flexible schedule, including availability during nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates should be 18 years or older and preferably have a background in customer relations, event planning, or a related restaurant environment. Experience working with children is preferred, as is having current ServeSafe certification. Physical requirements include the ability to lift items up to 50 pounds and maintain stamina for standing and walking in a lively and sometimes noisy work environment.
Working at American Girl means being part of a purpose-driven company that values collaboration, innovation, and execution. Employees are encouraged to contribute their best, share new ideas, and work collectively to achieve outstanding results. Joining this team provides an opportunity to make a tangible impact by crafting memorable experiences that inspire children and families, all while representing a globally recognized and beloved brand.
