The role of Ambassador Hospital Concierge at Penn Medicine offers a unique opportunity to be the welcoming face and supportive guide for thousands of patients, visitors, and employees daily. Working within the Patient and Guest Relations department, this position is instrumental in creating a positive and seamless experience by providing essential hospitality services, real-time assistance, and sensitive handling of patient and visitor needs. Active engagement with hospital staff across multiple disciplines enhances coordination efforts to ensure patient safety and satisfaction. This role requires a compassionate and personable individual who thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced healthcare setting and enjoys helping others by addressing concerns, facilitating wayfinding, and supporting various logistical needs.

Ambassadors serve as frontline representatives responsible for greeting between 8,000 and 10,000 visitors and patients each day, assisting with mobility, managing visitor flow, coordinating outpatient transport, and offering valuable concierge-like services including arranging transportation and providing information about local accommodations and amenities. The key responsibilities include delivering a supportive welcome in line with Penn Medicine Academy training, anticipating and responding promptly to concerns, and maintaining safety protocols to prevent accidents. This role demands strong emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving skills to effectively partner with clinical teams, security, and other departments to resolve issues swiftly, fostering a compassionate healthcare environment.

Working hours for this position are from 12 noon to 8:30 pm, including one weekend shift every six weeks with compensatory days off during the pay period. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work from 12 noon to 8:30 pm including one weekend shift every 6 weeks
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to assist immobile patients safely
  • Ability to manage visitor flow effectively
  • Capacity to provide concierge services such as arranging transportation and accommodations
  • Commitment to upholding safety protocols

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate of Arts or Science preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence
  • Prior experience in customer service or healthcare preferred

Job Duties

  • Provide a welcome to every patient, family member or visitor in accordance with the training provided through Penn Medicine Academy
  • Initiate greeting and positive interaction to all
  • Anticipate and respond to patient, visitor and hospital staff concerns, expectations or needs in a timely manner
  • Assist immobile patients out of/into vehicles and into/out of wheelchairs safely and courteously
  • Manage visitor flow at entrances to assure patients of timely arrival for appointments
  • Support all wayfinding, including the coordination of outpatient transports
  • Collaborate with patients, visitors and hospital staff to deliver coordinated and seamless service to patients and visitors, including patient transportation
