The role of the Full-Time Barista at Alfred's Westwood location is pivotal in continuing the brand's mission to deliver exceptional guest experiences. Reporting directly to the Cafe Manager, this non-exempt position offers a competitive wage of $18.67 per hour plus tips, approximating $22.50 to $26.50 per hour overall. As a barista, you will be at the forefront of cafe operations, responsible for preparing high-quality coffee, tea, and food offerings that adhere to Alfred’s exacting standards. The position demands a warm, hospitable approach to customer service, combining technical expertise in beverage preparation with a genuine passion for hospitality.
In this role, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to create a welcoming and energetic environment for both guests and team members. You will engage directly with customers, guiding them through the menu, answering their questions thoughtfully, and building genuine relationships that encourage repeat visits. Handling phone inquiries and supporting mobile ordering operations are also part of the daily tasks, requiring strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Beyond customer interactions, the Full-Time Barista plays an integral role in maintaining the cafe’s cleanliness, organization, and overall operational efficiency. This includes operating and maintaining coffee equipment, ensuring all preparation areas meet the highest standards of sanitation, and assisting with inventory and restocking as needed. The position also involves fostering a positive team environment where collaboration, clear communication, and a solution-focused mindset thrive.
Safety and compliance are of utmost importance at Alfred. Baristas must follow all company procedures related to food safety, hygiene, and cafe organization, promptly reporting any hazards or operational concerns to management. Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 20 pounds, move efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and maintain strong hands-on coordination to use espresso machines and other coffee equipment skillfully.

Job Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 20 pounds without assistance
- Move quickly and efficiently throughout the cafe in a fast-paced environment
- Maintain strong close-range vision and attention to detail for drink preparation, cash handling, and order accuracy
- Bend, squat, reach, and perform cleaning, stocking, and other operational tasks as needed
- Remain on feet for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts
- Comfortably operate a POS system, cash register, or tablet device to accurately process customer orders and payments
- Demonstrate the hand dexterity and coordination needed to safely and efficiently operate espresso machines, steamers, grinders, and other cafe equipment while preparing beverages to company standards
Job Qualifications
- Previous cafe, coffee, or restaurant experience is preferred, but not required
- Passion for hospitality and creating positive customer experiences in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team setting while working efficiently under pressure
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and grow
- Flexibility to attend quarterly team meetings, trainings, or company events that may occasionally take place outside of regular scheduled shifts
- Maintain reliable attendance and consistent availability, including a minimum commitment of three shifts per week
Job Duties
- Welcome guests with warmth and hospitality while delivering an elevated customer experience
- Guide customers through beverage and food offerings, answer questions thoughtfully, and build genuine rapport
- Handle phone inquiries, accurately process orders, and support mobile ordering operations
- Maintain a calm, professional, and welcoming presence during high-volume periods
- Prepare consistent, high-quality beverages and food items in accordance with Alfred recipes and standards
- Operate, clean, and maintain coffee equipment while ensuring all beverage and food preparation areas remain clean, organized, and sanitary
- Develop knowledge of coffee and tea origins, flavor profiles, and preparation methods
- Foster a positive team environment through active listening, clear communication, and a solutions-oriented mindset
- Partner with leadership and teammates to address operational needs and maintain consistency across shifts
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked cafe environment throughout each shift
- Assist with inventory, restocking, deliveries, and overall cafe upkeep
- Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in Company’s employee handbook
- Additional tasks that may be assigned to meet company goals
- Follow all company procedures related to food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and cafe organization
- Report safety hazards, incidents, or operational concerns to the management
