As a part-time Barista at Alfred's Coldwater location, you will be instrumental in providing an exceptional guest experience through outstanding hospitality, high-quality product preparation, and efficient café operations. This role involves preparing top-tier coffee, tea, and food items while fostering a warm and energetic atmosphere for both guests and teammates. Emphasis on collaboration, adaptability, and passion for hospitality is essential. You will be reporting directly to the Café Manager and working in a non-exempt role with a competitive wage starting at $18.67 per hour plus tips, equating to approximately $22.50 to $26.50 per hour.

The Barista position is more than just making coffee; it is about creating memorable customer interactions and maintaining high standards of coffee quality and café cleanliness. You will welcome guests warmly, guiding them through Alfred's beverage and food offerings, answering questions with thoughtfulness, handling orders accurately, and supporting mobile ordering systems. During peak hours, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor is key.

You will be responsible for preparing beverages and food consistent with Alfred's standards, operating and maintaining coffee equipment, and keeping service areas clean and organized. The role requires developing a solid understanding of coffee and tea origins, flavor profiles, and preparation methods to enhance guest experiences.

Collaboration is a cornerstone of this role with a focus on fostering a positive team environment, effective communication, and partnering with leadership to maintain operational consistency across shifts. Additionally, you will assist with inventory management, restocking, deliveries, and overall café upkeep.

Safety and compliance are paramount. You will follow all company procedures related to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene, and report any safety hazards or operational concerns to management.

Job Requirements

Lift and carry up to 20 pounds without assistance
Move quickly and efficiently throughout the café in a fast-paced environment
Maintain strong close-range vision and attention to detail for drink preparation, cash handling, and order accuracy
Bend, squat, reach, and perform cleaning, stocking, and other operational tasks as needed
Remain on feet for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts
Comfortably operate a POS system, cash register, or tablet device to accurately process customer orders and payments
Demonstrate the hand dexterity and coordination needed to safely and efficiently operate espresso machines, steamers, grinders, and other café equipment while preparing beverages to company standards

Job Qualifications

Previous cafe, coffee, or restaurant experience is preferred but not required
Passion for hospitality and creating positive customer experiences in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
Ability to thrive in a collaborative team setting while working efficiently under pressure
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and grow
Flexibility to attend quarterly team meetings, trainings, or company events that may occasionally take place outside of regular scheduled shifts
Maintain reliable attendance and consistent availability, including a minimum commitment of three shifts per week

Job Duties

Welcome guests with warmth and hospitality while delivering an elevated customer experience
Guide customers through beverage and food offerings, answer questions thoughtfully, and build genuine rapport
Handle phone inquiries, accurately process orders, and support mobile ordering operations
Maintain a calm, professional, and welcoming presence during high-volume periods
Prepare consistent, high-quality beverages and food items in accordance with Alfred recipes and standards
Operate, clean, and maintain coffee equipment while ensuring all beverage and food preparation areas remain clean, organized, and sanitary
Develop knowledge of coffee and tea origins, flavor profiles, and preparation methods
Foster a positive team environment through active listening, clear communication, and a solutions-oriented mindset
Partner with leadership and teammates to address operational needs and maintain consistency across shifts
Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked café environment throughout each shift
Assist with inventory, restocking, deliveries, and overall café upkeep
Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in company’s employee handbook
Follow all company procedures related to food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and café organization
Report safety hazards, incidents, or operational concerns to the management
