Job Description

The role available is for a full-time Barista position at Alfred’s Beverly & Martel location. Reporting directly to the Café Manager, the Barista is a critical part of the customer-facing team responsible for delivering exceptional hospitality and creating memorable customer experiences. This role is non-exempt and offers competitive wages starting at $17.87 per hour plus tips, averaging between $21.50 and $25.50 per hour. The Barista’s primary responsibility is to prepare high-quality coffee, tea, and food offerings while cultivating a welcoming and energetic atmosphere for both guests and team members.

In this role, the Barista will be expected to provide an elevated customer experience by warmly welcoming guests, guiding them through menu offerings, answering questions thoughtfully, and managing orders efficiently. They must maintain professionalism even during peak hours to ensure all guests feel valued and attended to. The Barista will also need to master Alfred’s recipes and standards to consistently prepare beverages and food items according to strict quality requirements. Operating, cleaning, and maintaining coffee equipment will be part of their daily tasks, alongside ensuring all preparation and service areas remain clean, organized, and sanitary.

Collaboration is essential in this role, as Baristas work closely with leadership and team members to maintain consistency across shifts and support overall café operations. This includes inventory management, restocking, and general upkeep to keep the café environment running smoothly. Baristas must also adhere to all company policies and procedures, particularly those related to food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety.

Job Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 20 pounds without assistance
  • Move quickly and efficiently throughout the café in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain strong close-range vision and attention to detail for drink preparation, cash handling, and order accuracy
  • Bend, squat, reach, and perform cleaning, stocking, and other operational tasks as needed
  • Remain on feet for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts
  • Comfortably operate a POS system, cash register, or tablet device to accurately process customer orders and payments
  • Demonstrate the hand dexterity and coordination needed to safely and efficiently operate espresso machines, steamers, grinders, and other café equipment while preparing beverages to company standards

Job Qualifications

  • Previous café, coffee, or restaurant experience is preferred, but not required
  • Passion for hospitality and creating positive customer experiences in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team setting while working efficiently under pressure
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and grow
  • Flexibility to attend quarterly team meetings, trainings, or company events that may occasionally take place outside of regular scheduled shifts
  • Maintain reliable attendance and consistent availability, including a minimum commitment of three shifts per week

Job Duties

  • Welcome guests with warmth and hospitality while delivering an elevated customer experience
  • Guide customers through beverage and food offerings, answer questions thoughtfully, and build genuine rapport
  • Handle phone inquiries, accurately process orders, and support mobile ordering operations
  • Maintain a calm, professional, and welcoming presence during high-volume periods
  • Prepare consistent, high-quality beverages and food items in accordance with Alfred recipes and standards
  • Operate, clean, and maintain coffee equipment while ensuring all beverage and food preparation areas remain clean, organized, and sanitary
  • Develop knowledge of coffee and tea origins, flavor profiles, and preparation methods
  • Foster a positive team environment through active listening, clear communication, and a solutions-oriented mindset
  • Partner with leadership and teammates to address operational needs and maintain consistency across shifts
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked café environment throughout each shift
  • Assist with inventory, restocking, deliveries, and overall café upkeep
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in Company’s employee handbook
  • Follow all company procedures related to food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and café organization
  • Report safety hazards, incidents, or operational concerns to the Management
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to meet company goals
