Job Description

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is a leading organization dedicated to fostering conservation efforts across the United States. Focused on providing young adults with opportunities to gain hands-on experience in environmental stewardship, the SCA operates numerous corps and crew programs nationwide. One of its key programs is the Alabama Conservation Corps (ALCC), which partners with state, municipal, and nonprofit entities to provide practical training in conservation work skills and leadership development. The ALCC plays a vital role in environmental conservation in Alabama by overseeing crews engaged in initiatives such as the GulfCorps program and prescribed burn internships in collaboration with the Nature Conservancy. This program is offered through AmeriCorps, allowing participants to serve while acquiring valuable field experience that enhances their professional capabilities and commitment to natural resource conservation.

The ALCC Program Coordinator position is a full-time, exempt, and temporary role based in Mobile, Alabama, with a scheduled tenure from August 3, 2026, to April 23, 2027. The position offers an annual salary of $51,000 and reports directly to the ALCC Program Manager. The Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the seamless technical, logistical, and administrative execution of the various conservation programs within the ALCC portfolio. This involves managing a diverse range of duties including facilitating the scheduling of conservation projects, overseeing the safety and quality of project work, and ensuring compliance with AmeriCorps and organizational mandates.

The role demands an individual who can effectively supervise Corps Members and Project Leaders, ensuring they are well-equipped and trained to deliver impactful program outcomes. The Program Coordinator will also assume direct supervisory responsibilities over Project Leaders and support their leadership of Corps Members, occasionally stepping in as a Crew Leader in the field. The position requires regular field engagement to assess project implementation, adherence to safety standards, and program effectiveness. Furthermore, the Coordinator plays a significant role in workforce development by conducting performance evaluations, facilitating professional growth opportunities, and fostering an inclusive and empowering environment aligned with SCA's core values such as belonging, collaboration, and safety.

Additional responsibilities include managing tools, equipment, and vehicle caches essential for program operations. The Program Coordinator ensures that all assets are organized, maintained, and compliant with both SCA and partner guidelines. They are also tasked with supporting external relationships by collaborating with community partners, representing the SCA at relevant events, and assisting with grant compliance and program reporting.

Candidates for this role should be prepared for extensive travel requirements, which involve driving in various conditions and potentially hiking for program-related activities. A valid driver’s license and the ability to comply with SCA's driver standards are essential. The position also requires certification or the ability to obtain certifications such as the Alabama Pesticide Applicator license and first aid/CPR qualifications within the initial months of employment.

This role offers a comprehensive benefits package including employer-paid life, AD&D, and short-term disability insurance; health, dental, vision, and pet insurance; confidential therapy and telehealth services; a generous paid time off policy; retirement plans with employer matching; and paid parental leave. The Student Conservation Association is committed to equal opportunity and fostering a fair, respectful, and collaborative work environment where individuals can thrive both personally and professionally.
