Job Description

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a key component of the Department of Homeland Security, is responsible for securing America's borders and facilitating lawful international trade and travel. Among its many units, the Air and Marine Operations (AMO) division stands out as an elite law enforcement and aviation organization that powers the agency's efforts to detect and prevent illegal entry and illicit activities across U.S. airspace and waterways. With a mission centered on protecting the United States from threats including terrorism, drug smuggling, and human trafficking, AMO boasts a highly skilled team of pilots and agents dedicated to safeguarding the nation. As part of this esteemed organization, pilots serve not only as aviators but also as law enforcement officers, combining their aviation expertise with critical operational duties to support national security and public safety.

AMO is actively seeking qualified pilots to join its ranks as Air Interdiction Agents (AIAs). This full-time federal law enforcement role offers highly competitive salaries, robust benefits, and long-term career stability in a rewarding, mission-driven environment. Particularly appealing to seasoned aviators and those with military flight experience, this position provides a unique opportunity to leverage pilot skills in pursuit of combatting illegal activity at the borders. AIAs contribute directly to the detection, interdiction, and apprehension of terrorists, weapons, drugs, and other contraband attempting transshipment or unlawful entry into the United States. Emphasizing teamwork, integrity, and operational excellence, AMO fosters a culture of camaraderie and pride among its pilots, who operate sophisticated aircraft in challenging conditions.

As an Air Interdiction Agent, you will perform aviation-based law enforcement operations including air patrol, surveillance, and interdiction activities focused on smuggled contraband transported via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels. You will also gather and analyze tactical intelligence, monitor suspicious behaviors, and may assist in search and rescue missions as part of AMO's humanitarian efforts. The role demands superior judgment, quick decision-making, and the ability to operate aircraft safely in diverse environments such as night, poor weather, and adverse terrain. The career path includes a grade progression from GS-11 to GS-13, with automatic promotion opportunities based on satisfactory performance.

AMO offers a highly competitive compensation package starting as high as $88,509 and extending up to $163,996 based on qualifications at the GS-11 level, with additional bonuses including recruitment and retention incentives. New hires may be eligible for a $10,000 recruitment incentive after completing required training, and certain duty locations qualify for retention incentives up to 25 percent, enhancing overall earnings. Federal benefits extend beyond salary to comprehensive health and dental insurance, generous annual and sick leave, retirement plans including the Thrift Savings Plan, and more. Duty assignments are nationwide based on operational and mission needs, encompassing regions such as Southeast (Florida, Puerto Rico), Southwest (Arizona, Texas, California), and specialized Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) locations.

If you are a skilled pilot seeking an impactful law enforcement career with strong federal backing, job stability, and the chance to protect America from the air, the Air Interdiction Agent position within CBP's Air and Marine Operations is an exceptional choice. AMO encourages qualified pilots to apply promptly, highlighting the streamlined application process and strong demand for candidates with military or commercial aviation experience. This role involves travel based on operational needs and requires U.S. citizenship, residency, FAA certification, and meeting age eligibility criteria with some age waivers available. The position includes rigorous training designed to uphold the highest standards of federal law enforcement aviation. Join this specialized aviation force and take your career to new heights while serving your country and advancing homeland security.
