The Afterschool Coordinator role at the Northeast Bronx YMCA offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about youth education and community enrichment. This position is integral to the operation of Y Afterschool programs which serve school-age children by providing academic enhancement and enrichment activities that align with Common Core standards and broader school goals. The Coordinator is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, supportive, and engaging environment that promotes learning, personal development, and social growth.

Operating under the Program Director's supervision, the Afterschool Coordinator ensures effective program delivery by managing daily operations, supervising staff, and maintaining compliance with licensing and regulatory requirements. This includes meticulous documentation such as incident and behavior reports as well as sign-in/sign-out logs. A significant part of the role is the management of program data to track attendance, participation, and outcomes, ensuring that services meet the highest standards of quality and impact.

Key responsibilities include directing grade-specific programming (K-5 or 6-8), incorporating social and emotional learning (SEL) best practices, and fostering community integration. The Coordinator drives engagement and retention strategies while also working closely with school partners to align activities with academic priorities, including STEAM and literacy initiatives. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with community organizations, public and private funders, and external evaluators to sustain and enhance program success.

This position emphasizes mental wellness by promoting supportive environments and training staff to identify and assist participants in need of mental health resources. The Coordinator also leads the selection and implementation of evidence-based SEL curricula such as COMPASS Elementary or SONYC. Building productive relationships with parents, caregivers, school staff, and stakeholders is crucial to fostering a collaborative and effective afterschool experience.

Employment for this role is part-time with a competitive hourly wage of $25.00. The work schedule aligns with the Y Afterschool program hours, Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., including during public school breaks.
