Job Description
Brown County is a government organization dedicated to serving the community with a range of essential services and programs that enhance the quality of life for its residents. The county supports initiatives aimed at health, welfare, and community engagement, ensuring that diverse populations including older adults, individuals with disabilities, and the general public receive comprehensive support. Among its various programs is the innovative Grounded Cafe and Grounded On the Go food truck, which emphasize providing fresh, quality food options alongside community engagement and support. The Grounded Cafe operations are integrated with congregate dining sites and mobile cafes, aiming to enrich community life, provide nutritious options, and promote social connectivity.
The part-time LTE Grounded Cafe Specialist role is a vital position that supports the operations of the Grounded Cafe and the Grounded On the Go mobile food truck. This role is designed for individuals passionate about food service, community engagement, and outreach. The Specialist’s key responsibilities include assisting with food preparation and service, ensuring compliance with food safety and health regulations, managing cash handling tasks, and supporting outreach efforts to promote the cafe’s programs. Working primarily during early morning hours from 5 to 8 AM on weekdays, the position offers an opportunity to be part of a program that not only serves nutritious and fresh food but also acts as an advocate for broader agency goals.
This role requires a professional who can maintain high standards for food safety and quality, communicate effectively with customers to explain the products and programs, and support volunteers who assist in cafe or food truck activities. The Specialist is also tasked with operational duties like cleaning, handling inventory, and participating in maintenance communications. Additionally, the position involves responsibilities like opening and closing cash drawers, operating point of sale equipment, and occasionally driving the mobile food truck (van/trailer combo).
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in restaurant or food service environments, including an understanding of safe food handling, inventory control, and customer service best practices. Preferred experience includes working with older adults, adults with disabilities, and volunteers, emphasizing the community-oriented nature of the role. Certifications required include CPR/AED and ServSafe Food Handling, with opportunities provided to obtain these certifications if not already held. A valid Wisconsin driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is also mandatory, reflecting the mobile aspect of the position. Brown County values diversity, effective communication, teamwork, and dedication to community service, making this position a rewarding choice for motivated candidates looking to make a positive impact while developing their skills in food service and community outreach.
