Job Description
This position is offered by a reputable healthcare facility committed to delivering exceptional patient care through a focused and organized admission process. The establishment operates within the hospital sector and emphasizes efficiency, accuracy, and patient communication as key pillars in its patient intake operations. The role is designed for a union member, highlighting its structured work environment and adherence to collective bargaining agreements. Typically, this position involves managing vital administrative tasks that ensure the smooth admission of both inpatients and outpatients, facilitating an organized flow from initial contact through to admission. The hospital provides comprehensive care services, and this role supports these services by being the patients' first point of contact during their admission process.
In this critical administrative role, the incumbent is responsible for arranging efficient and orderly pre-admission and admission procedures, aligning with hospital policies and patient needs. The responsibilities include accepting and processing reservations for scheduled, direct, and emergency admissions, completing registration forms with accuracy and efficiency. Additionally, the role requires clear communication of hospital policies, such as deposits, insurance benefits, parking, visitation rights, and handling of personal items, ensuring patients understand their rights and obligations. The incumbent is expected to collect payments for deposits including deductibles, co-insurance, and co-payments when necessary. Furthermore, the role involves educating patients about essential topics like Patients' Rights, Advanced Directives, and HIPAA regulations, which are critical for compliance and patient awareness.
The role also encompasses safeguarding patients' valuables and preparing identification bands while communicating compliance mandates. Escorting patients to appropriate units and adapting communication approaches based on the age and needs of the patient or their family members are also important aspects of this position. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in using various department equipment such as computers, scanners, fax machines, and printers. They must be capable of maintaining professionalism and composure in a fast-paced environment while managing difficult situations with tact and diplomacy. An understanding of insurance coverage and collaboration with insurance verifiers is necessary to address any exceptions or unusual circumstances. Continuous professional development is encouraged through participation in educational programs, mandatory in-services, and workshops. This position follows holiday schedules and involves working an 8-hour shift during the PM hours from 10:45 PM to 7:15 AM, ensuring night-time admission operations are conducted seamlessly.
