Job Description
High Point University, located in High Point, North Carolina, is a private institution known for its commitment to providing an extraordinary education through an inspiring environment and caring faculty and staff. The university emphasizes values centered around God, family, and country, creating a supportive atmosphere that nurtures student growth and academic excellence. The David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship at High Point University is distinguished for its focus on fostering entrepreneurial skills and innovative thinking in its students, preparing them for dynamic careers in various industries. The School offers a comprehensive curriculum in Event Management that equips students with essential knowledge and practical skills to excel in planning and managing all types of events.
The David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship is currently seeking an Adjunct Event Management Instructor to teach EMG 2040: Major Sporting Events in the upcoming semester. This is a 2-credit elective course within the Event Management curriculum designed to explore the strategic planning, operational challenges, and stakeholder relationships integral to hosting significant sporting events. The instructor will play a vital role in delivering course content that examines the distinctive characteristics of major sporting events within the global events industry, including the roles of organizing committees, host cities, media partners, sponsors, and tourism stakeholders.
In this role, the instructor will guide students through an in-depth analysis of how major sporting events contribute to economic development, destination branding, and community engagement. The course also explores the complexities involved in planning and executing these events successfully, including bidding processes, venue operations, fan engagement, and legacy planning. Students will engage in discussions and activities that foster a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted aspects of major sporting events. The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in Event Management, Sport Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field, with collegiate teaching experience preferred but not required.
The position requires the instructor to teach in person on the High Point University campus, delivering lectures, facilitating discussions, and assessing student progress through projects, presentations, quizzes, and participation. Additionally, the instructor will be responsible for maintaining timely communication with students and scheduling appointments when necessary to support student success. This opportunity not only allows for direct interaction with students but also provides a meaningful contribution to the development of future event management professionals.
Applicants must submit a single document containing an unofficial copy of their master’s transcript, curriculum vitae or resume, and a cover letter. Upon hire, an official transcript will be required. High Point University values a diverse and inclusive educational environment and seeks instructors dedicated to student engagement and academic excellence. The university does not sponsor H1-B visas for this position. Successful applicants may be placed in an adjunct pool for future teaching opportunities within the Event Management program, allowing for expanded involvement and professional growth.
Overall, this role offers an exciting chance to impart industry knowledge and educational expertise in a growing field at a respected institution committed to student achievement and community values.
