Job Description

The Town of Fairfield is a municipal government entity committed to providing high-quality recreational and leisure services to its diverse community. The town values inclusivity, healthy living, and community engagement, striving to create programs that cater to all age groups including children, adults, and seniors. Fairfield's Parks and Recreation Department plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by offering a broad array of activities and special events that encourage social interaction, physical fitness, and lifelong learning. This department works collaboratively with other town departments and community organizations to deliver well-rounded recreational services that meet the needs of its population in a professional and friendly environment.

This role is focused on supporting and enhancing the Adaptive Recreation Center programs within Fairfield. The position is responsible for assisting with the planning, organization, and execution of recreational activities and special events that serve a wide demographic with an emphasis on adaptive programming for individuals with specialized needs. The role requires collaboration with various internal departments such as the Health Department, Community and Economic Development, and the Board of Education, ensuring integrative and comprehensive services. This position entails direct involvement in advertising programs, managing logistics including transportation for trips, handling budget and grant assistance, hiring and training staff, and supervising volunteers and temporary employees.

The Recreational Program Coordinator is instrumental in delivering programs that are diverse and adaptive, covering sports leagues, fitness classes, special events, and intergenerational activities with community partners including local universities and youth groups. The coordinator ensures safety regulations and emergency procedures are upheld, compliance with legal standards is maintained, and program effectiveness is regularly evaluated through participant feedback and performance reports. By fostering community partnerships, developing new program ideas, and managing facility usage, the individual in this role helps maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming Adaptive Recreation Center environment.

This position requires a dynamic candidate with at least three years of experience in parks and recreation program management, a background in adaptive recreation or an equivalent field, and demonstrated supervisory skills. Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), valid Connecticut driver’s license, and CPR and First Aid certifications are mandatory. The role may require availability for evening and weekend events to ensure proper program support and community engagement. The Town of Fairfield offers an inclusive workplace with reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities and actively promotes equal employment opportunities.

This position represents a rewarding opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the community by enhancing access to adaptive and traditional recreational programs, promoting wellness and social inclusion, and fostering a vibrant and active town culture through creative, well-organized, and responsive program delivery.
