Job Description

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college
  • Minimum three years parks and recreation program experience
  • Minimum three years experience programming adaptive recreation and special events
  • Minimum three years supervisory experience
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification
  • CPR and First Aid certified
  • Valid State of Connecticut driver’s license
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to attend special events as needed

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation administration, public administration, business administration, special education, or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience in parks and recreation program management
  • Experience with adaptive recreation programming and special events
  • Supervisory experience managing staff and projects
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid State of Connecticut driver’s license
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to develop and implement recreational programs
  • Experience working with diverse populations including children, adults, and seniors

Job Duties

  • Assists in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational activities and special events
  • Advertises programs through flyers, social media, and community outreach
  • Arranges transportation services for trips and activities
  • Assists Director with budgeting and grant preparation
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and schedules part-time and temporary staff
  • Collaborates with town departments and community organizations
  • Collects fees and manages payments to vendors
  • Coordinates facility reservations, equipment usage, and participant registration
  • Develops recreational programs for various age groups and skill levels
  • Enforces safety regulations and manages emergency procedures
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends improvements
  • Files incident reports and communicates with Risk Manager
  • Supports daily operations of the Adaptive Recreation Center
  • Serves as liaison to groups, boards, and commissions
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
