We are currently seeking a passionate and dynamic individual to join the Town of Fairfield's Recreation Department as an Adaptive Recreation Program Coordinator. This role is pivotal in the planning, organizing, and implementation of a variety of recreational programs and special events, especially focusing on the Adaptive Recreation Center. The successful candidate will take on the responsibility of developing and managing adaptive programs for a diverse population. They will play an instrumental role in creating inclusive, enjoyable, and safe recreational opportunities that meet community needs. This position involves working closely with other town departments, community organizations, volunteers, and vendors to ensure seamless execution and wide participation.
The coordinator will be entrusted with diverse tasks including advertising programs, arranging transportation, assisting in staff hiring and training, managing facility reservations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining the center’s operational efficiency. The role demands strong organizational skills to coordinate multiple projects and programs effectively, develop innovative adaptive activities, and establish community partnerships. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in recreation, leisure studies, or a related field
- Experience in adaptive or general recreational program planning and implementation
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of safety and emergency procedures
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Valid driver's license preferred

Job Duties
- Advertises programs through various channels like flyers, social media, and community outreach to attract participants
- Arranges for bus and transportation services for various trips and activities
- Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort to serve the public
- Assists the Director with budgets and grant preparation
- Assists in hiring, training and evaluating assigned part-time and/or temporary staff
- Orients new staff and develops staffing schedules
- Attends events on evenings and weekends as needed
- Collaborates with other town departments such as Health Department, Community and Economic Development, Tax Assessor, Board of Education, Parks and Recreation and Public Works
- Collects fees or obtains checks to pay vendors
- Coordinates maintenance of the center
- Coordinates ordering of supplies
- Coordinates recruiting, training and supervising volunteers
- Creates program schedules, manages facility reservations for fields and practice spaces
- Handles participant registration
- Designs and creates diverse recreational programs based on community needs
- Develops community partnerships
- Enforces safety regulations and manages emergency procedures
- Evaluates adaptive population needs and seeks new programming ideas
- Exercises independent judgment in managing adaptive programs and trips
- Files incident reports and coordinates with Director and Risk Manager
- Identifies and recommends services and programs
- Maintains and improves efficiency and effectiveness
- Maintains clean, organized, and safe environment
- Organizes, implements and participates in specialized programs
- Oversees game play and special events
- Participates in short- and long-term planning
- Provides customer service and acts as an information resource
- Reviews and evaluates effectiveness of recreational programs
