Job Description
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is recognized as the largest hospital in Missouri and holds a ranking as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. A prestigious academic and community medical institution, Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians from Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a dedicated house staff of residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals. Notably, the hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a distinction that acknowledges excellence in nursing care, innovative patient services, and a supportive work environment for nursing staff. Acute Care Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital deals with patients managing a comprehensive range of clinical issues, including blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, gastrointestinal conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, cystic fibrosis, and multiple other complex diseases. The complexity and acuity of patients require advanced clinical training and development programs designed to elevate nurses from new graduates to highly competent healthcare professionals. Each Acute Care Medicine unit is guided by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse and supported by an advanced practice nurse. The multidisciplinary team also includes case managers, social workers, physical therapists, dietitians, and pharmacists who collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and patient-care technicians to ensure quality patient care.
We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for the Acute Internal Medicine Unit. This role is crucial in supporting the Nurse Manager in the daily operations of the unit, clinical oversight, and staff development. The ANM will function as a mentor, resource, and clinical leader, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment that supports nursing excellence and patient-centered care. Ideal candidates will have strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills, paired with at least two years of registered nursing experience. Leadership experience is preferred but not required. This full-time role includes four 10-hour evening shifts from 2:00 pm to 12:00 am, offers a $15,000 sign-on bonus for eligible external candidates, and comes with comprehensive benefits effective the first day of the month following start date. Additionally, the position includes leadership rotation calls and access to tuition assistance programs. The ANM will be responsible for coordinating patient care, managing personnel, overseeing equipment, and accumulating statistical data reflective of unit performance and patient outcomes. The role requires participation in budgeting, managing staff productivity, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols in a high-alert environment. This role is ideal for a nursing professional eager to grow in leadership while contributing to one of the leading hospitals in the nation committed to excellence in patient care and nursing practice.
