Job Description

Three Rivers Behavioral Health is a premier mental health treatment facility located in West Columbia, South Carolina. As a 129-bed inpatient facility, it provides comprehensive psychiatric, detoxification/rehabilitation, and dual diagnosis services to both adolescents and adults. Three Rivers Behavioral Health is dedicated to treating patients as individuals with potential, aiming to improve their relationships, mental health, and overall quality of life through structured treatment and recovery programs. In addition to inpatient services, Three Rivers also offers outpatient programs such as a Partial Hospitalization Program for adults and an Adult Chemical Dependency Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program with flexible day and evening sessions, ensuring a continuum of care tailored to patient needs.

Currently, Three Rivers Behavioral Health has a full-time opening for a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)/Activity Therapist. This role is integral to the treatment team, focusing on delivering structured activity therapy programs to support patients throughout their recovery journey. The CTRS/Activity Therapist is responsible for comprehensive programming, which includes assessment, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge planning related to activity therapy. To succeed in this position, candidates must possess knowledge of treatment programs, leisure education, social skill development, and therapeutic activities involving arts and sports. This role requires an individual committed to supporting the facility's culture of Service Excellence and the ability to apply these standards in interactions with patients, families, and internal teams.

Job Requirements

  • Currently certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with NCTRC or certification within six months of hire date
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Recreation Therapy
  • Prefer minimum two years experience in Recreation Therapy field working with mental health population
  • Knowledge and experience with behavior management procedures

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Complete all activity therapy programming including assessment, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge planning
  • Develop and facilitate leisure education and social skills development activities
  • Plan and conduct therapeutic recreational activities including arts and sports
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support patient treatment plans
  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress notes on patient participation and outcomes
  • Promote an organizational culture of Service Excellence and apply these standards with all customer groups
  • Ensure compliance with behavior management procedures and safety protocols
