Job Description
American House Senior Living Communities, founded in 1979, is a well-established organization dedicated to providing high-quality senior housing at an affordable price for retirees and their families. With nearly 40 years of experience, American House has expanded its reach to serve numerous senior housing communities, building a reputation for excellence and compassionate care. The company’s mission focuses on enriching the lives of its residents by fostering an environment that promotes meaningful relationships and holistic well-being. American House envisions itself as an innovative leader in the senior housing industry, committed to creating sustainable excellence and stakeholder value through passionate and compassionate people.
The Activities Director position at American House Senior Living Communities is a pivotal role within the Independent and Assisted Living settings. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and collaborating with Corporate and Regional Life Enrichment Directors, the Activities Director is tasked with enhancing residents' lives through the planning and implementation of engaging community events and programs. This position requires a strategic and creative individual who can develop a dynamic and inclusive activities calendar inspired by the Seven Dimensions of Wellness Model, integrating emotional, environmental, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual wellness each day.
In this role, the Activities Director will coordinate with various internal and external stakeholders, including residents, family members, staff, entertainers, and vendors, to ensure all community events are executed flawlessly. The director will manage event logistics such as scheduling, communication, pay, and setup, while promoting participation and enthusiasm among residents. Responsibilities also include maintaining communication with regional and corporate teams, managing department petty cash and credit card expenditures, and overseeing transportation services for group outings and appointments.
Proficiency in current technologies and software platforms is essential, as the Activities Director will be responsible for updating digital communications such as the community newsletter and activity boards. Experience working with residents with dementia and knowledge of senior living industry trends are highly preferred, as is the ability to lead and train Life Enrichment Assistants and volunteers. The role also entails upholding the mission, philosophy, safety standards, and quality assurance procedures of American House, as well as assisting in emergency preparedness efforts.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, a positive and energetic attitude, compassion for older adults, and a strong sense of leadership. This leadership role demands strong organizational and problem-solving skills, the capacity to build and maintain external relationships, and the ability to foster a welcoming and vibrant community atmosphere. The Activities Director must also hold a valid driver's license and be eligible to obtain a CDL license within 90 days of hire where required.
Overall, this position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a significant impact on the quality of life for senior residents by delivering engaging, purposeful, and innovative activities that promote holistic wellness and community connection within a supportive and caring environment.
