The Recreation Department at Tulsa County Parks is currently seeking a full-time Athletics Program Coordinator to oversee the delivery and operation of athletic facilities and programs, specifically at the O'Brien Park and Recreation Center. This position offers a monthly salary of $5,208.78 and requires a proactive leader who is adept at planning, implementing, and evaluating a wide variety of sports and wellness activities. The role involves close collaboration with community stakeholders including schools, neighborhood groups, and local organizations to ensure recreational offerings align with community interests and needs.
The Athletics Program Coordinator will be responsible for supervising full-time and part-time staff, volunteers, and seasonal workers, ensuring high-quality program delivery and positive participant experiences. Key responsibilities include organizing leagues, sports development initiatives, wellness and fitness programs, and special events. The coordinator will also manage concessions, coordinate maintenance activities, oversee administrative tasks such as record keeping, reporting, and promotional efforts, and represent the department in strategic planning activities.
Ideal candidates will bring extensive knowledge of modern recreational principles, facility management, and federal and state compliance requirements. The role demands a strong capacity for leadership, communication, and community engagement, as well as operational skills, including budgeting, proposal writing, and team development. A bachelor’s degree in recreation or a related field, paired with more than three years of paid experience in the recreation field including supervisory duties, is required. Proficiency in organizing sports programs, facility planning, and a commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive environment for all participants are essential.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- over three years of paid recreation experience including one year supervisory experience
- experience in park facilities planning, design, and sports program development
- ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional documents
- ability to write reports and business correspondence
- CPR and First Aid certification
- valid Oklahoma Driver's License with acceptable driving record
- successful completion of defensive driving course within three months
- ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- ability to occasionally perform physical activities such as climbing, stooping, and crawling
- ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing as required
- ability to manage and supervise staff and volunteers
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field
- over three years paid experience in recreation
- at least one year supervisory experience in organized recreation program
- experience in park facilities planning and design
- experience developing and facilitating sports programs
- ability to read and interpret business periodicals and governmental regulations
- effective report writing and presentation skills
- mathematical skills including probability, statistics, and geometry
- strong reasoning and problem-solving skills
- CPR and First Aid certificates
- valid Oklahoma Driver's License
- successful completion of Tulsa County Defensive Driving course within three months of employment
- certification as Food Manager (may be earned after employment)
Job Duties
- Plan, implement, and coordinate operation of athletics facilities and programs
- coordinate with community leaders and schools to address community needs
- analyze and evaluate leagues, sports development, wellness/fitness, and special events
- hire and train staff and volunteers
- supervise and evaluate staff performance and motivate participants
- promote positive relations with neighborhoods, groups, and organizations for athletic activities and special events
- oversee food concessions at athletic facilities and special events
- hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff
- coordinate with maintenance for repairs of athletic facilities
- prepare proposals, presentations, and promotional materials
- assist director in determining athletic activities and needs
- maintain required records and prepare reports
- request supplies, equipment, and maintenance
- maintain discipline
- explain policies and procedures to patrons and staff
- teach various classes
- prepare and deliver deposits
- assist with janitorial maintenance
- secure facilities and equipment as needed
- perform other duties as assigned
