Job Description

Founded in 1912 as an adoption agency, Canopy Children's Solutions has evolved into Mississippi’s most comprehensive nonprofit provider of children’s behavioral health, educational, and family support solutions. With over a century of experience, Canopy has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to improving the lives of children and families across Mississippi. The organization embraces core values that prioritize the voice of the children and families they serve, the importance of meaningful relationships, the joy derived from serving others, and a dedication to providing the very best for their communities. Recognized as a Great Place to Work® for the fifth consecutive year, Canopy stands out as one of only nine companies in Mississippi to earn this certification for 2025-2026. Employees at Canopy are part of a mission-driven team that fosters a healthy workplace culture built on trust, collaboration, and a shared passion to help children thrive and empower families to overcome extraordinary challenges.

Canopy offers its full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package that includes competitive compensation, a 403b retirement plan with a company match, medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, vacation benefits, and employee wellness and counseling services. These benefits, combined with Canopy's supportive environment, make it an exceptional place for those who want to make a meaningful impact in children’s lives.

The Activities Assistant position at Canopy Children's Solutions plays a crucial role within the CARES Center. This role is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all events and activities designed to support the therapeutic and recreational needs of the youth served by the organization. The Activities Assistant works closely with program staff to ensure all activities align with therapeutic goals while prioritizing safety and engagement. Responsibilities include assessing the interests of the youth through observation and interviews, planning and facilitating outings and campus-wide events, and assisting with the management of the full summer camp program.

This role also involves supporting the volunteer program of the CARES Center by recruiting, training, placing, and retaining volunteers to help enrich the experience of the children and youth served. The Activities Assistant ensures that visitors and volunteers are welcomed warmly and provided with excellent customer service, including making sure refreshments are available during events and visits. This position requires availability during weekends and evenings to accommodate the scheduling of activities and events. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Therapy, Education, Adaptive Physical Education, Behavioral Health, or a related field, along with experience in residential or similar settings. Prior experience in activities coordination, volunteer management, and customer service is preferred.

Working as an Activities Assistant at Canopy Children’s Solutions offers a unique opportunity to directly impact the lives of young people by creating and managing engaging, therapeutic activities that support their development and well-being.
