The role of Activities Aide is a vital position within the facility’s recreational and therapeutic services department. Working closely alongside the Activities Director, the Aide helps to design activity schedules which may include games, arts and crafts, music sessions, exercise programs, and special events. These activities are carefully tailored to meet the diverse interests and abilities of residents, ensuring participation is inclusive and meaningful.

This position requires a caring, patient individual with strong interpersonal skills who can connect with older adults and encourage their involvement in activities that enhance their quality of life. The Activities Aide plays an important role in maintaining residents’ emotional and social well-being by fostering a stimulating and enjoyable environment. Responsibilities also include monitoring resident safety during events, documenting participation and preferences, and assisting with setup and cleanup to keep activity areas safe and welcoming.

Ideal candidates will either have prior experience working in activities coordination or recreation, particularly within healthcare or community settings, or demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow in the role. Basic computer skills are necessary for documentation purposes. Job Duties

  • Assist in activity planning including daily, weekly, and monthly schedules
  • Provide input on new and creative activities based on residents’ interests and abilities
  • Lead and facilitate group activities such as games, arts and crafts, music sessions, and exercise programs
  • Encourage resident participation and engage with them individually
  • Adapt activities for residents with varying mobility and cognitive levels
  • Build relationships with residents to support their emotional and social needs
  • Monitor safety and well-being of residents during activities
  • Document resident attendance, preferences, and involvement accurately
  • Prepare and clean up activity spaces ensuring safe and welcoming environment
  • Assist in organizing and running special events such as holiday celebrations and family nights
  • Coordinate with volunteers, family members, and staff for successful events
