Job Description
ResCare Community Living, part of the Sevita family, is a dedicated provider of quality services focused on empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This job opportunity is for a direct support professional role at ResCare Community Living. This non-exempt, hourly position offers both full-time and part-time employment options, allowing for flexibility based on the candidate’s availability and the needs of the program. The role typically involves providing direct support within a single program or unit, supporting between 4 to 6 individuals in residential settings or up to 10 individuals in periodic programs. The candidate will be responsible for delivering support according to individual service and program plans. This includes assisting with socialization, health maintenance, medication administration, skill development, and behavioral support.
Additional responsibilities include helping individuals with daily activities such as personal care, housekeeping, recreational activities, transportation, community integration, shopping, and citizenship. The role also involves assisting with medical appointments, managing individual assets, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring the rights of those served are respected. The direct support professional will prepare and support individuals in meal preparation according to planned menus, special diets, and individual preferences. This role requires teamwork, adherence to safety protocols, and active participation in training and staff meetings.
ResCare emphasizes workplace safety and requires employees to comply with all established safety policies, procedures, and reporting requirements. The job may include some maintenance duties such as monitoring environmental safety, performing minor repairs, yard maintenance, and maintaining cleanliness. Driving may be involved to transport individuals safely according to local laws, with full compliance with vehicle safety standards. The job demands physical work, including exerting up to 100 pounds occasionally, showcasing the active nature of the role.
The position has no supervisory responsibilities and requires a valid driver’s license in good standing, as well as completion of all state-mandated training and certification within designated timeframes. Employees must successfully pass criminal background checks and drug testing procedures according to ResCare’s policies. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a compassionate approach to supporting individuals are critical to success in this role. Job Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- valid driver’s license and good driving record
- car registration and vehicle insurance if providing transportation
- completion of criminal background checks including Central Registry and Child Abuse Registry Information
- submission to drug testing prior to employment and randomly thereafter
- ability to perform heavy physical work
- attendance at orientation and ongoing training
- compliance with all safety policies and reporting
- willingness to work scheduled shifts with punctuality
- compliance with company MVR driving record requirements
- cooperation with inspections and investigations conducted by authorities
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- six months of experience in human services preferred
- valid driver’s license in good standing
- completion of all state-required training and certification within mandated timeframes
- working knowledge of computers
- ability to maintain confidentiality and professional relationships
- strong communication skills
- ability to follow detailed instructions and safety procedures
