Job Description
The City of Brownsville proudly presents an exciting career opportunity as the Brownsville Sports Park Manager. Brownsville, located in Texas, is known for its vibrant community, rich culture, and dedication to providing exceptional public amenities and services. Among these offerings is the Brownsville Sports Park (BSP), a well-established and highly frequented recreational facility that caters to sports enthusiasts and community members of all ages. Managed by the Parks and Recreation Department (PARDS), the Sports Park plays a pivotal role in promoting healthy lifestyles, community engagement, and local sports development through a broad range of athletic facilities and programs.
As the Brownsville Sports Park Manager, you will be entrusted with overseeing the comprehensive maintenance and operational functions of the Sports Park. This key leadership role demands hands-on management of the park's various physical structures, buildings, sports fields, courts, playgrounds, landscaping, and underground systems to ensure the facility consistently meets high standards for safety, appearance, and usability. You will lead a dedicated team by offering coaching, mentoring, and supervision, fostering a collaborative work environment that encourages professional growth and service excellence.
The position requires the manager to perform detailed inspections, schedule and coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs, and actively participate in event setups. Beyond daily operations, the manager plays a vital role in strategic planning, including implementing policies and procedures, developing improvement plans for facilities, managing lengthy lifecycle replacement strategies, and ensuring compliance with organizational goals and safety standards.
The position offers a full-time employment opportunity with a competitive annual salary of $57,388.35, making it attractive for candidates seeking a stable and rewarding career in sports facility management. The role demands a professional who embodies strong competencies such as professionalism, trustworthiness, ethical conduct, excellent customer service skills, clear communication, self-awareness, responsibility, and effective time management.
Working at Brownsville Sports Park means contributing to a dynamic environment where you will be encouraged to innovate and implement operations that promote community wellness and maximize public enjoyment of the park's resources. The manager systematically evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of operational programs and services through community engagement, ensuring measurable outcomes that enhance overall community wellbeing.
The role further involves preparing administrative reports, managing budgets, controlling expenditures, compiling records, and monitoring material supplies to ensure smooth operation. The manager also participates in outreach and stakeholder meetings related to park operations, marketing, and venue promotion. To maintain professional growth and stay current with emerging trends and best practices, attendance at conferences, webinars, and specialized courses is encouraged.
Candidate's leadership and organizational skills will be tested as they manage a team of three or more staff members while actively contributing to hiring, training, and disciplinary decisions. The position requires frequent physical activity including standing, lifting, moving, pushing, and pulling, with occasional exertion up to 50 pounds. The worker is also responsible for City equipment and vehicles, emphasizing accountability and stewardship of public resources.
The City of Brownsville emphasizes equal employment opportunities, diversity, and inclusion, with provisions for reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. Successful candidates will undergo drug and alcohol screening, physical examination, and background checks to maintain the highest workplace standards.
Joining the team means enjoying a comprehensive benefits package that supports employees' health, financial security, and work-life balance. This includes participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System with a favorable City-to-employee matching ratio, robust medical, dental, life, and vision insurance plans, access to no-cost care at local clinics for covered employees and dependents, and voluntary benefits such as pet insurance. Additional offerings include accrued sick and vacation leave, parental leave concurrent with FMLA, longevity pay, tuition assistance, paid holidays, and flexible scheduling options starting in fiscal year 2025.
This role offers career growth potential and the chance to make a lasting positive impact on the Brownsville community through outstanding sports park management and leadership. If you have a passion for recreation administration, sports management, and team leadership, this position represents a remarkable opportunity to advance your career while serving the community in a meaningful capacity.
