Job Description
FedEx Freight, Inc. is a prominent leader in the less-than-truckload (LTL) freight transportation industry, renowned for its commitment to excellence, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. As an integral part of the globally recognized FedEx Corporation, FedEx Freight specializes in providing reliable, timely, and quality transportation services to customers across a wide spectrum of industries. With a robust infrastructure supporting its logistics operations, the company is well-positioned to manage freight movement efficiently while prioritizing safety, compliance, and employee development. FedEx Freight emphasizes safety and regulatory adherence in every facet of their logistics services, ensuring compliance with DOT rules, OSHA laws, hazardous materials regulations, and other industry standards.
The role of the Lead Employee in this dynamic environment is pivotal in orchestrating the daily freight operations to meet and exceed customer expectations. The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding and managing a team focused on delivering shipments on time and without damage, navigating a fast-paced dock environment with operational safety as a paramount concern. This leadership position demands a proactive approach to employee development, safety monitoring, cost efficiency, and customer service excellence.
Primarily, this role includes leading, educating, and motivating company employees with an emphasis on retention and fostering professional growth. The lead employee will supervise work during critical phases such as pre-shifts, ensuring quality control, adherence to safety protocols, and achievement of customer deliverables. A keen eye for identifying unsafe acts or conditions is essential, with an immediate corrective action mindset coupled with proper documentation and feedback.
Operational oversight involves meticulously planning manpower needs, scheduling effectively to ensure timely deliveries and pickups, and maintaining compliance with service freight cut times. Cross-functional communication is essential—clear, concise coordination of job assignments ensures smooth workflow and understanding across the team.
Cost containment and efficiency improvement are continuous objectives, balanced carefully with uncompromising safety standards. The lead employee will support customers by providing rate quotes, managing claims information, and scheduling appointments with a focus on customer satisfaction and relationship building.
The role also requires diligent performance monitoring, data gathering for reporting purposes, and resolving issues related to freight weight and classification errors. Handling over, short, and damaged (OS&D) shipments correctly is a critical administrative responsibility, underscoring the importance of accuracy and compliance.
Committing to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies is foundational, ensuring that the workplace remains safe, efficient, and legally compliant. This role calls for a talented leader capable of multitasking and demonstrating organizational skills within a challenging, often time-sensitive environment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on operational success, customer experience, and team growth within one of the logistics industry’s most respected companies.
