The role being offered is within the BAMG - Des Moines business unit, classified as a non-management position within the production and skilled trades category. The Production Machine Operator is responsible for the setup, calibration, and operation of machines involved in the production processes. This involves following verbal or written instructions, diagrams, or models to ensure efficient and accurate machine operations. A key element of the role is inspecting machining operations and finished products using precision measuring tools to verify adherence to specified tolerances. Additionally, the operator troubleshoots and corrects more complex machine malfunctions while performing routine maintenance and cleaning tasks. They may also provide support in numeric controlled programming, including programming for computer numeric control (CNC) and coordinate measuring machine (CMM) tools.

  • 1-2 year vocational training or associates degree
  • ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Job Duties

  • Manages or performs skilled trades and lower level apprentice craft work for set-up, calibration, and operation of machines used in production processes including precision tool and part making and repair typically performed in a machine shop environment
  • computer numeric control (CNC) machine tool programming
  • coordinate measuring machine (CMM) machine tool programming
  • inspects machining operations and finished product against specified tolerances using precision measuring tools
  • determines and corrects more complex machine malfunctions
  • performs routine maintenance and cleaning
