The role of Sanitation Worker - Housekeeping at Great Lakes Cheese is vital to maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the manufacturing facility. This position involves performing janitorial duties across the offices, restrooms, and break areas as well as carrying out sanitation tasks in various parts of the plant. Sanitation Workers ensure that all areas are clean, orderly, and compliant with food safety regulations, protecting product integrity and employee safety. These duties include daily cleaning, managing PPE and janitorial supplies, handling chemical use and storage, and responding to hazardous spills. Additionally, the role requires working within the guidelines of the company's Safe Quality Food Program and adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices. Employees in this position are expected to maintain a safe and sanitary environment that exceeds customer expectations for quality and safety. This full-time role is suited for individuals with the ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks, and commit to safety protocols and cleanliness standards that support the production of premium dairy products. Job Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work for a company in the U.S. without sponsorship
- must be able to work without relocation
- ability to constantly stand/walk
- bend/flex/extend neck
- frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with hands
- ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder and push/pull/carry
- use of hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats and/or safety glasses as required
- occasional exposure to industrial operations including temperature extremes (35°F to 100°F), noise levels above 85 dB, moisture and moving machinery
- able to lift product weight up to 100 lbs
- capable of safely driving tow motors or other motorized vehicles in tight quarters
- able to evaluate conditions by walking through the plant
- able to climb stairs, ladders and work at heights
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- general understanding of manufacturing processes and related equipment
- ability to make decisions based on standard practices
- ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve
- sanitation experience preferred
- SAP experience preferred
- basic computer skills preferred
Job Duties
- Clean, mop, and vacuum all common areas daily
- refill paper goods, hand soaps/sanitizers as needed
- maintains the PPE and janitorial supply inventories
- ensure cleanliness of all other areas as assigned
- clean floors using floor scrubber
- ensure exterior grounds are kept free of litter and other debris
- clean/sanitize presumptive areas for environmental findings outside of production areas
- reads chemical labels to ensure safe applications, tests and records chemical solutions strengths
- maintains chemical room, unloads bulk chemicals, stores chemical drums/totes
- cleans ammonia and boiler rooms
- cleans hazardous spills indoors and outdoors
- perform assignments following safety policies and procedures
- produce products adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, policies, and Safe Quality Food Program
- other responsibilities as assigned by the manager
