The Food Service Assistant position at Centennial High School (East Campus) is an integral support role within the district’s food service program. Available starting August 25, 2026, this part-time role involves working 3 hours daily from 9:45 am to 12:45 pm. The position offers a competitive hourly wage of $18.21 and includes comprehensive benefits such as long-term disability insurance, life insurance, pension plans including PERA, paid time off, paid sick time, and an employee assistance program, ensuring the well-being and security of employees. The Food Service Assistant plays a critical role in supporting food preparation and service to students and staff, adhering to standardized recipes and proper hygiene standards. Responsibilities include assembling and serving food portions, assisting with baking and mixing, maintaining sanitation standards, supporting special event catering needs, and helping manage record-keeping systems for food service operations.
This role requires collaboration with full-time kitchen staff and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal personnel and students, fostering a positive meal service environment. Physical aspects of the role include standing for extended periods, handling kitchen tools, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, requiring employees to be physically active and attentive to safety protocols. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree
- Some previous quantity food production experience
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree and some previous quantity food production
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to record data such as simple arithmetic and simple written directions
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Ability to stand for extended periods, use hands to fingers, handles or feel objects, tools or controls
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to talk or hear
- Ability to taste or smell
Job Duties
- Assists in the preparation and assembly of food items according to standardized recipes and proper instructions for the regular and alternate menus
- Sets up and maintains the quantity and quality of food on the serving line
- Serves food to the students and staff in the appropriate portions and manner
- Assists with baking, mixing, and stirring activities to prepare food items for the meal service
- Performs clean up activities as prescribed for meeting sanitation standards
- Returns items to the appropriate storage area in the proper containers
- Assists in finished off prepared food items for special events/catering as required
- Assists the full-time cooks and cook/manager in gathering the data necessary for implementing the building level record keeping systems
- Facilitates good communication/positive environment with both internal and external customers
- Operates some kitchen equipment needed to prepare and serve meals and to clean up when meal preparation is complete
- Performs related work as apparent or assigned
