The position available at Phoenix Metals belongs to the Plant family department, focusing on metals processing and distribution. This role involves supervising or performing hands-on work in metals processing operations that require a practical understanding of the specialized equipment used and the methodologies involved in the production environment. This position works within a dynamic shift from 3pm to 11:30pm and entails medium to heavy physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, and operating machinery. The successful candidate will provide vital operational support by troubleshooting and repairing production and material handling equipment, aiding in maintenance activities, and ensuring all systems operate efficiently and safely.

Specific job functions include diagnosing equipment issues, routine maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating machinery, assisting with the assembly and installation of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and vacuum tube systems, as well as dismantling and reassembling equipment components. The role requires close collaboration with coworkers to move heavy machines and parts, adherence to safety and compliance standards, and accurate documentation of production and repair activities. The candidate must also be adept at inventory management for parts and possess the ability to operate motorized repair and material handling equipment safely.

Job Requirements

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and be able to obtain certification for motorized material handling and rigging equipment
  • Ability to meet Motor Vehicle Record quality criteria as defined by regulations and company policy
  • Tradeschool certification in electrical, HVAC or plumbing preferred
  • Technical aptitude and basic knowledge of mechanics
  • Working knowledge of electro mechanical systems, troubleshooting and equipment repair
  • Adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions
  • Basic measurement skills including length, width, height and weight
  • Basic arithmetic skills including decimals and fractions
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on knowledge, experience and judgment
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, internal customers and vendors

Job Duties

  • Provide daily support for operational and maintenance issues involving equipment installation, troubleshooting and repair
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests and minor maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating machinery
  • Assist with assembly, installation, repairs and maintenance of wiring, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and vacuum tube systems
  • Dismantle equipment and remove parts for repair using hand tools or lifting equipment
  • Reassemble equipment after maintenance or repair work
  • Start up equipment and observe mechanical operation to detect issues
  • Inspect damaged equipment parts and report defects
  • Install and replace machine parts per production specifications
  • Conduct preventative maintenance programs
  • Operate motorized repair and material handling equipment safely
  • Record production, repair, and maintenance information
  • Read maintenance orders to identify repair needs
  • Order, track and inventory parts
  • Collaborate with coworkers to move machinery
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
