Job Description
Safeway is a well-established supermarket chain committed to providing high-quality groceries and exceptional customer service across its many locations. Known for its dedication to community engagement and improving the shopping experience, Safeway operates a variety of in-store services, including Starbucks kiosks that deliver premium coffee and beverage options to customers. These kiosks are integral components of the Safeway shopping experience, blending quality products with convenient service. As part of a larger retail environment, the Starbucks kiosk located within Safeway stores functions to meet the standards of both Starbucks and Safeway, aiming to deliver an exceptional customer experience in a fast-paced setting.
The Starbucks Department Manager position at Safeway is pivotal to achieving these goals. This role requires an individual to exemplify strong customer service skills, oversee kiosk operations, and ensure that sales and profit objectives are met. The manager acts as the primary contact for customers, providing friendly, courteous, and helpful service while holding direct accountability for the department’s performance. Responsibilities include managing the barista team, assisting with inventory management, and ensuring product quality in accordance with corporate guidelines. This role also demands operational competence such as cash handling, brewing beverages, and maintaining a clean and organized kiosk.
Compensation for this position ranges between $17.38 to $28.15 per hour, depending on factors such as location, experience, and qualifications. Additionally, there are comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance; paid time off and vacation accruals; paid holidays; bereavement pay; and retirement options like pension plans or 401(k) plans, based on the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. This full-time role requires a high level of physical activity, including constant standing and walking, as well as some lifting and carrying of stock.
Overall, the Starbucks Department Manager is a leadership role that requires hands-on involvement in daily operations while fostering a positive customer environment. The role demands excellent communication and people skills to interact effectively with customers and co-workers, alongside an aptitude for managing schedules, training employees, and maintaining financial records. This position provides an opportunity to be part of a nationally recognized brand within the supportive environment of Safeway. Individuals who thrive in dynamic, customer-focused roles and who have prior experience in customer service or management are ideal candidates for this role. Safeway supports diversity and inclusion and provides reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
