Job Description

Wolfoods, Inc. is a pioneering company that operates summer camp kitchens across the United States from May through September. Dedicated to revolutionizing the traditional approach to camp food, Wolfoods has distinguished itself by offering home-style scratch cooking, a significant upgrade from the typical freezer-to-table fare commonly associated with camp meals. The company partners with camps committed to providing campers with healthy, fresh, and delicious foods, proudly rebranding camp cuisine into an experience that embraces quality, nutrition, and culinary education. With a commitment to balanced diets and green initiatives, Wolfoods provides a diverse menu designed to delight campers by offering not just their favorite foods but also an exploration of global cultures through cuisine. Every meal is complemented by freshly baked goods prepared on-site by professional camp bakers, alongside a variety of options such as fruit and yogurt bars at breakfast and salad bars available throughout lunch and dinner. The company's mission ensures that no camper is left without personalized meal care, especially those requiring special diets, which are handled with great care by specially trained chefs. Wolfoods caters to a wide range of dietary needs, including kosher, nut-free, gluten-free, and vegan options, demonstrating an adeptness at accommodating various food restrictions and allergies.

The role offered is for experienced, motivated, and capable Special Diets (Allergen) Chefs or Sous Chefs who will be stationed in summer camp kitchens managed by Wolfoods. This position is not local; it requires culinary professionals to relocate and live onsite at the camp location during the summer season. Compensation includes competitive pay alongside room, board, and travel assistance, reflecting the role's demanding nature. Working in this capacity involves hands-on culinary duties within a fast-paced, dynamic environment where strong leadership, flawless food preparation, and stringent sanitation protocols are essential. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing the Wolfoods Camp Food Service Program, which demands an expert understanding of food allergens, special dietary requirements, and the ability to develop and prepare dishes safely for individuals with multiple dietary restrictions.

The Special Diets Chef or Sous Chef acts as a vital communicator and leader within the camp community, interacting professionally and effectively with campers, exchange students, kitchen and dining hall staff, camp directors, counselors, and other stakeholders. This individual must maintain a keen sense of urgency and a thorough knowledge of Wolfoods' standards to answer any service or culinary-related inquiries. The role encompasses skilled, scratch-made food production, supervising and coaching support kitchen staff, and overseeing dining hall operations. Successful candidates are expected to exhibit initiative, leadership, independence, judgment, and the capacity to teach and delegate essential tasks. The work requires continuous attention to the principles of cross-contamination prevention, especially concerning allergens, and adherence to health department sanitation standards. Managing inventory, ordering supplies, planning menus with appropriate substitution for special diets, and ensuring accurate food production timing, quantity, and quality are all key components of the job.
