The role entails leadership responsibilities including providing work direction and technical supervision to food service workers, managing meal preparation schedules, and enforcing food safety regulations. Additionally, the job involves participating in the merchandising and marketing of food services designed to boost meal program participation and sales.
The food production element includes cooking, baking, preparing ala carte items, adjusting recipes to meet service needs, and responding to special food service requests. Accountability for compliant inventory management, including taking stock, ordering, receiving deliveries, and rotating stock following first-in-first-out (FIFO) procedures is also essential. The role requires meticulous completion of production records and verification of vendor invoices to support financial and operational controls.
Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen and cafeteria environment is paramount, with strict adherence to health department standards and sanitation regulations. Monitoring of kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers to ensure proper operating temperatures and sanitation is also a key function. The work environment is fast-paced and requires attention to detail, teamwork, and customer service skills to handle interactions with students and staff effectively. A valid Oregon Food Handlers' Certificate and First Aid/CPR certification are mandatory to ensure compliance with safety standards. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about nutrition, food safety, and working within an educational community to make a direct impact on children's meal experiences and health outcomes.
