Job Description

The hiring establishment is a Nutrition Services Department within an educational institution, focused on supporting the educational process by providing nutritious and safe food services to students across multiple school locations. This department plays a critical role in ensuring that food service activities align with the mandated nutritional requirements set forth by regulatory bodies like the USDA while maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation. The organization is dedicated to fostering a positive environment not only for the students but also for the food service staff who contribute to the daily operations within the school cafeterias. This Nutrition Services Department typically operates within elementary and middle school settings, emphasizing the delivery of appealing, nutritious, and well-prepared meals that meet specific dietary guidelines aimed at enhancing student health and well-being.

The role of Cafeteria Supervisor I is essential to this mission. This includes scheduling work assignments for staff, training employees to maximize productivity, and addressing inquiries from students, parents, and school staff regarding food services and policies. They also process documents related to transactions and account balances, contribute to team meetings and ongoing training sessions, and facilitate continuous improvement in work processes through collaboration and effective communication.

This position requires someone with strong knowledge and skills in food safety, sanitation, basic mathematics, cash handling, and the ability to handle technical tasks and use relevant software applications and equipment found in commercial kitchens. Physical stamina and the ability to follow safety and health protocols in a dynamic work environment, which includes working in varying temperatures and handling moderate physical exertion, are also essential to perform this role successfully.
