The role of a bakery clerk at Schnucks is integral to maintaining the bakery department's high standards and ensuring customer satisfaction. As a bakery clerk, you will be responsible for providing friendly and courteous service to customers, assisting them with product selections and suggestive selling to enhance their shopping experience. This position requires regular and reliable attendance as an essential function. The bakery clerk will handle the processing of incoming bakery products from both the bakery plant and direct store delivery vendors, ensuring all items are properly stocked and displayed. You will also package fresh-baked goods, slice and wrap fresh baked bread, and maintain product displays by rotating and straightening items to keep the presentation attractive. Additionally, you will prepare outdated products for thrift stores and order decorated cakes from the bakery plant as needed. Baking cookies and continuous cleaning of the work area and equipment in line with company safety and sanitation procedures are other key responsibilities. This role demands a hands-on approach, attention to detail, and the ability to work standing for long periods of 4 to 8 hours per shift. Physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds are also part of the job. Training for this position is provided at the store level, ensuring new hires are well-equipped to perform their duties effectively. Schnucks values internal candidates and prefers those with prior experience at the company; store or facility teammates are preferred to have at least six months of employment, and store support center teammates should have a minimum of one year. Candidates must be in good standing, not currently on a performance improvement plan or active discipline, and if selected for an interview, manager approval based on performance is required.
