Job Description
18 Reasons is a nonprofit organization based in California with locations in San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose dedicated to serving the community by addressing issues related to health and hunger. Known for its commitment to creating a positive impact through community engagement and development programs, 18 Reasons welcomes individuals passionate about contributing to social good. The organization fosters a collaborative work environment filled with motivated, flexible, and driven team members who are committed to service and collective growth. By focusing on fundraising, donor engagement, and public communications, 18 Reasons ensures its mission is effectively supported and communicated across varied audiences.
The Communications & Events Coordinator position at 18 Reasons is a unique opportunity within their Development & Communications team, offered as a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA role for one year, starting from September 8, 2026, to September 7, 2027. This role is ideal for hands-on, solution-oriented individuals who thrive in an independent work setting and are eager to learn while contributing to impactful community service. The Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting fundraising, marketing, and communications efforts while helping to streamline department operations. Candidates do not need prior experience in fundraising, communications, marketing, or nonprofit sectors, but must possess critical thinking skills, sharp writing ability, organizational capabilities, motivation, and attention to detail.
Key tasks include maintaining the organization of the Development & Communications team, crafting inspiring written content for donor engagement, and managing social media presence along with newsletters. The role also focuses on developing content calendars, engagement guidelines, graphic and video templates through tools like Canva, and establishing frameworks for storytelling and consent protocols. Additionally, the Coordinator will create event planning materials, registration workflows, volunteer role descriptions, and donor stewardship documents to support community engagement and fundraising initiatives. This position provides an excellent platform to grow professionally, contribute meaningfully, and gain experience in community-focused work with support from dedicated leadership and colleagues. Benefits for this role include a choice between an Education Award or End of Service Stipend, relocation allowance, and a living allowance, emphasizing the value placed on the service delivered by the Coordinator.
