Job Description

AJ's Bistro is a vibrant and innovative food establishment known for its commitment to fresh, gourmet offerings and exceptional customer service. As part of a larger retail or specialty grocery environment, AJ's Bistro combines culinary expertise with excellent merchandising and community-focused values. The Bistro prides itself on offering a diverse menu that includes healthy options, gourmet meals, and curated products that cater to a wide range of tastes and dietary preferences. Emphasizing quality, creativity, and impeccable standards of food safety and hygiene, AJ's Bistro offers employees an engaged work environment where innovation and passion for food meet business acumen.

The role of Executive Chef at AJ's Bistro is a dynamic and pivotal position within the Bistro management team. Reporting directly to the Bistro Team Lead and collaborating closely with both the Bistro Team Lead and the Store Team Lead, the Executive Chef plays a key role in driving the department toward achieving its merchandising, sales, and customer service goals. This leadership role involves overseeing the daily activities and personnel within the department, ensuring smooth operations in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest standards of culinary creativity and food safety.

The Executive Chef at AJ's Bistro is responsible for acting as the primary culinary expert, leading the development and curation of menu options that reflect current food trends and consumer demand. This includes creating recipes that balance gourmet quality with healthy eating, managing product assortment and procurement, and working collaboratively with vendors to develop products and recipes that enhance the Bistro's offerings. Partnering with the Catering Director, the Executive Chef also assists in planning profitable catering menus aligned with company standards.

Beyond menu development, the Executive Chef takes ownership of food safety and sanitation within the Bistro, ensuring compliance with all relevant state, county, and local guidelines. The role requires managing inventory and orders, educating both guests and team members on the culinary products and recipes, and assisting with hiring, training, and scheduling the Bistro team. This leadership position demands strong organizational skills to help control shrink, labor costs, and other expenses while driving sales and profitability.

Physical demands include standing, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, keyboarding, telephone use, walking, and bending, reflecting the hands-on nature of the role. The Executive Chef should be a responsible, approachable individual who thrives in a team-oriented, customer-facing setting and is committed to continuous self-development, particularly staying current with healthy eating trends and culinary innovations.

This position offers competitive compensation paid weekly, with a robust benefits package including retirement plans, medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents, tuition reimbursement, scholarship opportunities, store discounts, and a fun, supportive work environment. AJ's Bistro also fosters opportunities for internal growth and promotion within the organization, encouraging current employees to seek advancement and development.

Overall, joining AJ's Bistro as an Executive Chef means becoming part of a forward-thinking team dedicated to creating delightful food experiences while supporting a vibrant community. This is an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals looking to combine their passion for food with leadership and operational excellence in a thriving retail-bistro environment.
