The Pastry Chef role at AJ's plays a crucial part in supporting the prepared foods department. Collaboration is key, as the Pastry Chef will closely work with the Catering Director and Executive Chef to design menus that are profitable, varied, and uphold AJ's quality standards. The role demands excellent communication skills to maintain strong relationships with kitchen staff and management. Additionally, the Pastry Chef must maintain a clean and organized preparation area and handle customer transactions accurately when required, including cash and card payments. This position requires physical stamina to manage extended periods of standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and other activities typical in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Responsible for production, ordering, merchandising, achieving goals on sales and profits, controlling inventory and out of stocks, sanitation, shrink, supplies, equipment, and safety
  • Assist with menu planning and development including creativity and experimentation with new trends and menu ideas and recipes to create AJ's exclusive pastries and expand the offerings in our Boulangeries
  • Ensure compliance with health department and weights and measures requirements
  • Maintain open communication with all members of the kitchen and department manager
  • Work with the Catering Director and Executive Chef on menu planning and facilitating the production of catering menus to ensure profitability, variety and AJ's quality standards
  • Maintain a high degree of cleanliness throughout preparation area
  • Correctly operate a cash register including proper cash handling and all forms of tender per company policy
