Job Description
FedEx Freight, Inc., a leading provider in the transportation industry, specializes in less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services across North America. As part of the globally renowned FedEx Corporation, FedEx Freight offers innovative shipping solutions, ensuring timely and reliable delivery services that meet the demands of a wide range of customers, from small businesses to large enterprises. With a commitment to safety, professionalism, and operational excellence, FedEx Freight operates a vast network of service centers and vehicles to facilitate the smooth movement of goods. The company prides itself on strong corporate values, including diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity employment, making it a respected and sought-after employer in the logistics sector.
The open position is for a professional Driver responsible for pick-up and delivery duties between Service Centers and directly to customers. This role requires operating straight trucks in a variety of conditions while adhering to strict safety and customer service standards. The Driver will perform manual lifting and use equipment such as two-wheel dollies and carts, often handling freight within multi-temperature environments, demonstrating flexibility, endurance, and attention to detail. Timeliness and professionalism in interactions with customers and colleagues are paramount.
The driver will be tasked with securing freight using pallets, straps, and ropes and performing daily vehicle inspections to ensure operational readiness. Following dispatch instructions accurately, communicating effectively about delays or equipment issues, and managing freight handling requirements play a key part in this role. The individual will also collect freight charges, maintain necessary documentation, and support hazardous materials regulations in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards.
This full-time position offers an attractive compensation package starting at $28.59 per hour, with pay potentially reaching up to $33.10 hourly depending on the assignment, including mileage pay for linehaul duties. The company values work-life balance and offers comprehensive benefits such as health, vision, and dental insurance, paid time off including personal, sick, bereavement, paid parental leave and holidays, 401(k) retirement savings plan with bonus potential, tuition reimbursement, and adoption assistance.
Ideal candidates must hold a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with hazardous materials and tank endorsements and have at least one year of experience operating a straight truck or similar vehicle within the last three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. The ability to lift up to 100 pounds, adapt to various weather and road conditions, and maintain excellent customer service skills is essential. Compliance with safety, hazardous material regulations, and company policies is mandatory.
Working conditions may require drivers to operate both indoors and outdoors, exposed to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and occasionally chain vehicle tires for winter conditions. The role demands physical stamina to sit, bend, twist, and climb into trucks regularly. FedEx Freight supports professional growth by requiring the hazardous materials endorsement to be obtained within 120 days of accepting employment, underscoring the company’s dedication to safe freight handling and regulatory compliance.
Joining FedEx Freight as a Driver means becoming part of a dynamic, customer-focused company with a strong reputation for quality and innovation in the freight industry, supported by a culture that champions safety, respect, and opportunity for all employees.
