Job Description

FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading provider of less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services, known for its extensive network coverage across the United States and its commitment to reliable and timely delivery solutions. As part of the FedEx family, FedEx Freight operates with a strong emphasis on safety, professionalism, and customer service, making it a trusted name in freight logistics. The company employs a diverse workforce dedicated to maintaining high operational standards and delivering excellence at every step of the freight transportation process.

This position is for a Tractor-Trailer Driver responsible for picking up and delivering trailers between various Service Centers and turn-point locations using tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable. The role requires operating combination vehicles safely and efficiently. Starting pay is $31.26 per hour, reflecting the company’s commitment to competitive compensation. Working as a Tractor-Trailer Driver at FedEx Freight entails performing a variety of duties such as conducting mandatory pre-trip safety inspections, hooking and unhooking trailers, maintaining accurate logs and documentation, and adhering to all applicable regulations including hazardous material handling protocols.

In this role, drivers must follow dispatch instructions closely and communicate effectively concerning delays, arrivals, and equipment issues. Flexibility is essential, as the position may require performing additional duties like city driving and dock work when operationally necessary. Drivers are expected to comply with federal DOT regulations and meet specific licensing requirements, including holding a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with endorsements for double/triple trailers, hazardous materials, and tank vehicles. An automatic transmission CDL restriction is allowed.

FedEx Freight emphasizes safety, so drivers perform daily pre-trip inspections and ensure compliance with hazardous material regulations. Working conditions involve long-distance driving in various weather conditions, exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials. Drivers must have good physical stamina to handle the job’s physical demands, such as lifting up to 100 pounds and climbing in and out of trucks frequently.

FedEx Freight also values ongoing training and certification, including obtaining a Hazardous Materials endorsement within 120 days of hire if not already possessed. The role requires that the driver have an acceptable motor vehicle record and meet all Department of Transportation regulatory requirements. Overall, this position offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity for qualified commercial drivers who value safety, teamwork, and operational efficiency within a well-established and respected organization in the freight industry.
