Job Description
FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading provider in less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services, committed to delivering superior cargo transportation solutions across the United States. As part of the FedEx family, FedEx Freight operates a vast network of service centers that ensure efficient movement of freight with a focus on reliability, speed, and safety. Recognized as an Equal Opportunity Employer, FedEx Freight supports diversity in its workforce including disabled individuals and veterans. The company offers competitive compensation and hiring benefits to attract dedicated professionals who share its commitment to excellence in freight transportation.
This position centers on the crucial role of a tractor-trailer driver tasked with the pickup and delivery of trailers between various FedEx Freight service centers and turn-point locations. Drivers operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples when applicable, to ensure timely and secure freight transport. The starting rate of pay for this role is $31.26 per hour. Employees assume responsibilities not only in driving but also in performing equipment inspections, documenting delivery activities accurately, and complying with all regulatory safety standards.
In this role, you will be expected to perform safety and pre-trip inspections daily to guarantee the condition and safety of the tractor and trailers. Responsibilities include hooking and unhooking trailers and converter dollies, managing comprehensive documentation and reports, and maintaining accurate logs. Adhering to hazardous materials guidelines and effectively communicating with dispatch regarding operations and delays are vital components of the job. The position may require occasional chaining of vehicle tires, assistance in loading and unloading freight, and flexibility to perform city driving or dock work as operationally necessary.
The role requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License with endorsements for doubles/triples, hazardous materials, and tanks, with automatic transmission CDL restrictions permitted. Candidates should have at least one year of experience within the past three years or successful completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. The applicant must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and meet all Department of Transportation regulatory requirements. In select states, long combination vehicles (triples, Rocky Mountain doubles, and turnpike doubles) are operated, and drivers must meet specific LCV qualifying standards.
This employment is subject to the ability to work long hours, sometimes overnight, and under various weather and road conditions. It demands physical endurance to perform tasks such as hooking trailers and sitting for extended periods. FedEx Freight emphasizes safety, compliance, and superior service, making this position ideal for motivated individuals seeking a stable career in the freight transportation industry.
