Job Description

FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading freight transportation company specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping services across the United States. As part of the extensive FedEx network, FedEx Freight ensures reliable and efficient delivery solutions designed to meet the varying needs of businesses nationwide. Known for their commitment to quality service, safety, and innovation, FedEx Freight operates a vast fleet of tractor-trailers and service centers dedicated to the timely pickup and delivery of freight. The company is widely recognized for its strong corporate culture centered on teamwork, customer satisfaction, and professional growth opportunities for its employees.

The available position is for a professional Driver who will be responsible for picking up and delivering freight between FedEx Freight Service Centers and customers while supporting the selling process. This role primarily involves operating various types of commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples when applicable, as well as straight trucks. Candidates will perform daily safety and pre-trip inspections on their equipment and will be responsible for hooking and unhooking trailers and converter dollies. Freight handling duties include using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to ensure freight is secured properly inside trailers with the appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and ropes. The role also demands attention to damaged freight, ensuring prompt recoup or repair to maintain service quality.

The Driver will be expected to comply with all hazardous material regulations and procedures while verifying and completing necessary documentation and reports diligently. Communication skills are essential for this position, as drivers will interact with dispatch teams to report delays, arrivals, or equipment problems and engage with customers to understand their delivery and pickup needs. An important aspect of the job involves soliciting additional business opportunities by providing leads to sales teams, demonstrating the company’s commitment to growth and customer service excellence. This role may occasionally require chaining vehicle tires or performing duties of road drivers or dock employees when operationally necessary.

Compensation for this position starts at $35.21 per hour, with the potential to earn between $35.21 and $36.97 per hour depending on linehaul assignment duties. Additional mileage pay ranges from approximately $0.81 to $0.85 per mile, accompanied by fixed pay for certain linehaul-related tasks. Pay within this range reflects factors such as experience, tenure, and job-related performance metrics. FedEx Freight offers comprehensive benefits including health, vision, and dental insurance, paid personal and sick time, a 401(k) retirement savings plan, bonus potential, tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, paid parental and bereavement leave, and paid holidays and vacation for full-time employees.

This position requires adherence to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including maintaining a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the necessary endorsements for doubles/triples, hazardous materials, and tank vehicles. The driver must also meet company-established Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) standards and complete regulatory training to ensure safety and compliance. Working conditions include exposure to various weather conditions, road types, noise, vibration, and occasionally hazardous materials traveling under DOT guidelines. Hours may vary based on operational demands, requiring flexibility and dedication. FedEx Freight is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring applicants and employees enjoy fair treatment without discrimination. Assistance is available for candidates with disabilities during the application process.
