Job Requirements
- Class A commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements
- One year recent experience or completion of driver development course
- Acceptable motor vehicle record
- Meet DOT regulatory requirements
- Obtain hazardous materials endorsement within 120 days
- Ability to perform physical duties including lifting 100 pounds
- Ability to communicate and follow instructions
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Willingness to work varying hours and conditions
- Compliance with company policies and federal laws
Job Qualifications
- Must possess a class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements
- Must have one year experience within the most recent three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
- Must possess an acceptable motor vehicle record based on hiring standards
- Must meet all Department of Transportation regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations
- Must meet Long Combination Vehicles qualification and certification standards if operating in specified states
- Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lift and carry hand freight up to 100 pounds
- Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
- Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
- Ability to work independently or as a team member
Job Duties
- Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and triples, and/or straight trucks
- Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment
- Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies
- Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment
- Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies
- Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
- Verify and complete required documentation and reports
- Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
- Collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain required documentation
- Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch as required
- Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business
- Demonstrate internal and external customer service
- Ask for additional business from customers and provide leads to sales
- May be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires
- May perform duties of road driver or dock employee as necessary
- Comply with laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures
- Perform other duties as required
