Job Description

FedEx Freight, Inc., a subsidiary of FedEx Corp, is a leading less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services company with a strong reputation for reliable and efficient freight transportation across the United States. With a commitment to safety, customer service, and operational excellence, FedEx Freight operates an extensive network of service centers, providing comprehensive freight pickup and delivery services to customers nationwide. The company focuses on fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive working environment for its employees, including disabled individuals and veterans, ensuring equal employment opportunities.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth within a respected and stable company. The role focuses primarily on the operation of tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples, as applicable, to pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers. A critical part of this role is supporting the selling process by soliciting additional business from customers and ensuring excellent communication with dispatch and sales teams. This is a full-time, hourly-paid role starting at $31.93 per hour, with a pay range up to $36.97 per hour for those assigned linehaul duties. An additional mileage pay option is available for linehaul drivers, ranging from $0.7342 to $0.8498 per mile, plus fixed pay for certain linehaul-related tasks based on fractions of the hourly rate.

The driver is responsible for performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment, including tractor-trailers and straight trucks, as well as hooking and unhooking trailers and converter dollies. Proper freight handling is required using motorized or manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Securing freight safely inside trailers with appropriate tools such as pallets, straps, and rope is essential to maintaining freight integrity and compliance with hazardous materials regulations. Drivers must also be prepared to repair damaged freight if necessary and properly document all required reports and freight charges.

This role demands excellent communication skills to coordinate with dispatchers and customers effectively, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries and identifying potential new business sales leads. Drivers may also be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires and fill in for road drivers or dock employees when operationally necessary. Safety and regulatory compliance are paramount, including adherence to regulations outlined in section 391 of Federal Motor Carrier regulations and acquiring endorsements for hazardous materials and tank vehicles where applicable. The company's strong emphasis on training ensures employees complete all required certifications and remain updated on best practices.

Candidates should be physically capable of lifting and carrying freight weighing up to 100 pounds and performing various physical actions such as sitting for extended periods, bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing into trucks. The job occasionally exposes employees to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials, underlining the importance of safety vigilance. Shift hours may vary based on operational needs.

FedEx Freight’s employment practices promote equity and support accommodations for applicants with disabilities, providing accessible pathways to employment. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees, including medical, dental, and vision plans, employee assistance programs (EAP), personal and sick paid time off, 401(k) retirement plans, bonus potential, tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, paid bereavement, employee discounts, vacation, and paid holidays. The role emphasizes teamwork, independence, and a dedication to service quality within a dynamic logistics environment, making it ideal for experienced commercial drivers seeking rewarding opportunities in freight transportation.
