Job Description

FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading logistics and transportation company specializing in freight shipping, offering reliable and efficient services across North America. As a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation, a globally recognized brand, FedEx Freight focuses on providing less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services that cater to businesses and customers needing timely delivery of goods and materials. The company is committed to safety, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence, leveraging advanced technology and a skilled workforce to maintain its position in the competitive freight shipping industry. FedEx Freight is an equal opportunity employer, promoting diversity and inclusion within its workforce and ensuring compliance with all employment regulations.

The role available at FedEx Freight is for a professional Truck Driver responsible for pick-up and delivery of freight between service centers and customers, while supporting the selling process. This position involves operating tractor-trailer combinations including doubles and triples, or straight trucks, depending on operational needs and endorsements held. The starting rate of pay ranges from $31.26 to $36.18 per hour, with additional mileage pay if assigned linehaul duties. Compensation packages also include fixed pay for certain linehaul-related tasks and benefits such as health, vision, dental insurance, personal/sick paid time off, a 401(k) retirement savings plan, bonus potential, tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, bereavement leave, vacation, and paid holidays for full-time employees.

In this position, the driver is required to perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections to ensure equipment is in working order, hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies, and handle freight using appropriate motorized and manual equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Securing freight within trailers using pallets, straps, and ropes is essential to prevent shifting during transit, as is the ability to recoup or repair damaged freight when necessary. Drivers need to verify and complete all required documentation and reports, adhere to hazardous material regulations, and maintain communication with dispatch and customers to manage delays, arrivals, or equipment issues while also soliciting additional business opportunities.

The position requires a valid class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements, although an automatic transmission CDL restriction is allowed. Candidates must have at least one year of recent driving experience within the past three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. Meeting Department of Transportation regulations and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record are mandatory. Operating long combination vehicles in specified states requires meeting additional qualification and certification standards. The ability to perform basic math, communicate effectively, and physically lift and carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds are necessary skills for this role. Drivers must have stamina to sit for extended periods and perform physical movements such as bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing in and out of trucks.

Working conditions include driving in various weather and road conditions, exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. Hours may vary according to operational needs. The hazardous materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of job offer acceptance, and employees cannot drive a commercial motor vehicle without this endorsement. FedEx Freight supports employees with accommodations for disabilities and is committed to a workplace free from discrimination based on compensation discussions, in accordance with legal requirements. This comprehensive role offers a stable career path for qualified professional drivers who are safety-focused, customer-oriented, and eager to contribute to the company’s success.
