Job Description

FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading provider in the freight transportation industry, offering reliable and efficient freight hauling services across a wide network of service centers. Known for its commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence, FedEx Freight operates a large fleet of vehicles that transport goods across various states, featuring advanced logistics technology to streamline delivery and pickup processes. As a part of the larger FedEx Corporation, FedEx Freight maintains a strong reputation for innovation, responsiveness to customer needs, and adherence to regulatory standards, making it a preferred partner for companies requiring dependable freight services.

This role offers a vital opportunity to join FedEx Freight as a professional driver responsible for picking up and delivering freight between designated service centers and customers. The position is hourly-based, starting at a competitive rate of $29.83 per hour, providing a stable income with potential ongoing growth. The primary function of this job involves operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples, or straight trucks, depending on the assignment and route. Candidates will be expected to perform daily safety and pre-trip equipment inspections and handle freight using motorized equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to ensure the secure movement and delivery of cargo.

Drivers in this role will be responsible for coupling and uncoupling trailers and dollies, properly securing freight inside trailers with straps, pallets, and ropes, and addressing damaged freight through recoup or repair efforts. Accurate and timely completion of all required documentation, reports, and customer communications are essential to maintaining company standards and upholding regulatory compliance. This includes adhering to hazardous materials regulations and handling cash or checks for freight charges where applicable.

Successful candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License with relevant endorsements, including double/triple trailers, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements, though an automatic transmission restriction is permissible. Practical experience is required, either through recent driving within the past three years or through successful completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.

The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift freight weighing up to 100 pounds multiple times weekly, endure long periods seated, and negotiate physical movements such as bending and climbing into trucks. Evening and changing hours may be necessary in response to operational demands, and candidates must be prepared for exposure to various weather conditions, noise, vibration, dust, and diesel fumes inherent to freight transportation work.

FedEx Freight emphasizes internal and external customer service by encouraging drivers to communicate effectively with customers to assess delivery and pickup needs, solicit additional business, and generate leads for sales opportunities. Drivers may also serve in additional roles, such as road drivers or dock employees, when operationally necessary.

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, FedEx Freight values diversity and inclusion in its workforce and provides reasonable accommodations during the application process to ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Safety, compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, and adherence to company policies remain paramount across all job functions. This position offers a chance to build a career within a respected transportation company that prioritizes safety, service, and employee development.
