Job Description

FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading freight transportation company known for its comprehensive and reliable shipping services across the United States. As a division of FedEx Corporation, it specializes in less-than-truckload (LTL) freight shipping, offering a mix of speed, price, and reliability that meets the diverse needs of businesses and individuals. The company boasts an extensive network of service centers strategically located across the country to facilitate quick, efficient pickups, deliveries, and freight handling. FedEx Freight is committed to operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and employee well-being, making it a respected name in the freight industry and a great place for professional growth.

The position offered is for a professional Tractor-Trailer Driver responsible for picking up and delivering freight between Service Centers and customers, as well as supporting the selling process. This role is essential to maintaining the integrity and timeliness of freight deliveries and helping to drive the sales business forward by engaging with customers during deliveries. The starting pay rate for this role is competitively set at $29.83 per hour, reflecting FedEx Freight’s commitment to rewarding skilled and dedicated drivers.

In this role, you will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, and/or straight trucks to transport freight safely and efficiently. Daily responsibilities require thorough pre-trip and safety inspections to ensure that the equipment is in optimal working condition. You will hook and unhook trailers, secure freight properly using pallets, straps, and ropes, and handle freight either manually or with motorized equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. The role also demands a high level of attention to freight protection, including recouping and repairing damaged freight as necessary.

Moreover, you are expected to comply with all applicable hazardous material regulations, ensuring safe handling and transportation in line with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier regulations. The job involves communicating effectively with dispatch and customers, managing delays and equipment issues proactively, and assisting in generating new business opportunities by soliciting additional sales leads from customers during deliveries.

The work environment involves driving on all types of roads in varied weather conditions, exposure to noise, dust, diesel fumes, and handling hazardous materials. Flexibility in working hours based on operational needs is required, and certain physical demands like lifting freight up to 100 pounds and performing tasks such as chaining vehicle tires may be necessary. FedEx Freight fosters a culture of safety, teamwork, and professional development, providing opportunities to expand skills through ongoing training programs, including the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.

This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with endorsements for doubles/triples, hazardous materials, and tank vehicles, though an automatic transmission CDL restriction is allowed. Eligible drivers must have recent experience or successful completion of the driver development course and must meet stringent Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) standards. FedEx Freight ensures compliance with federal regulations including certification requirements for operating long combination vehicles in specific states.

FedEx Freight values diversity and equal opportunity employment practices, supporting applicants and employees with disabilities and veterans. They emphasize a nondiscriminatory workplace environment, promoting compensation transparency and fair employment standards. This role provides not only a stable and rewarding career but also a chance to contribute to a globally recognized logistics leader committed to service excellence and customer satisfaction.
