Job Requirements

  • Possess a class A Commercial Driver's License with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements
  • Have one year of experience within the most recent three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
  • Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
  • Meet Department of Transportation regulatory requirements under section 391
  • Ability to count and perform basic math
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds multiple times a week
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of trucks
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete training
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member
  • Obtain the hazardous materials endorsement within 120 days of offer acceptance

Job Qualifications

  • Possess a class A Commercial Driver's License with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements
  • Have one year of experience within the most recent three years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
  • Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record according to hiring standards
  • Meet all Department of Transportation regulatory requirements under section 391 of Federal Motor Carrier regulations
  • Ability to count and perform basic math with or without a calculator
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift and carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of trucks
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Meet Long Combination Vehicles qualification and certification minimum standards for certain states

Job Duties

  • Operate tractor-trailer combinations including doubles and triples and/or straight trucks
  • Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment
  • Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies
  • Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks
  • Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope
  • Recoup and repair damaged freight as needed
  • Verify and complete required documentation and reports
  • Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
  • Collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain documentation
  • Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch including delays, arrivals, and equipment issues
  • Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business
  • Demonstrate internal and external customer service
  • Ask for additional business from customers and provide leads to sales
  • May perform chaining of vehicle tires
  • May perform job duties of road driver or dock employee as needed
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures
  • Perform other duties as required
