Job Description
FedEx Freight, Inc., a leader in the freight transportation industry, provides reliable and efficient freight delivery services across the United States. Known for its commitment to quality service and customer satisfaction, FedEx Freight operates an extensive network of service centers and employs thousands of drivers and freight professionals. With a core focus on safety, innovation, and operational excellence, FedEx Freight is dedicated to supporting businesses of all sizes by facilitating smooth freight logistics and distribution. The company values a diverse workforce and fosters an inclusive culture by offering equal employment opportunities to all qualified individuals, including those with disabilities and veterans. FedEx Freight is also committed to complying with all legal and regulatory standards, maintaining a work environment where professionalism and respect for all employees is paramount.
The position available is for a freight driver role involving picking up and delivering freight between service centers and customers. The successful candidate will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, and/or straight trucks to ensure timely and safe transportation of goods. The role requires performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections, securing freight using appropriate tools and supplies, and handling freight with motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Additionally, the driver will be responsible for verifying and completing required documentation and reports, complying with hazardous material regulations, collecting payments as needed, and maintaining communication with dispatch and customers to support the selling process. This role is critical in maintaining customer satisfaction by demonstrating excellent internal and external customer service and identifying potential new business opportunities through customer engagement.
The position pays a starting rate of $31.26 per hour and offers a dynamic work environment where drivers may be required to perform duties beyond driving, such as chaining vehicle tires or assisting dock employees under operational necessity. Employees are expected to comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, ensuring the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency. The job demands physical capability to lift and carry heavy freight weighing up to 100 pounds and to perform activities requiring flexibility such as bending, twisting, and climbing in and out of trucks. Work conditions include exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials within regulatory guidelines. The role requires adaptability to variable work hours based on operational needs and adherence to Department of Transportation requirements, including obtaining a hazardous materials endorsement within 120 days of employment. FedEx Freight is committed to supporting its employees with thorough training and ongoing development to foster success and growth in this demanding but rewarding role.
