Job Description

Bend-La Pine Schools is a prominent K-12 public school district located in Bend, Oregon, committed to delivering high-quality education and fostering an inclusive, equitable environment for all students and staff. The district emphasizes equity over equality, recognizing the necessity of removing barriers and promoting inclusive practices to ensure that every student, regardless of background, has the opportunity to succeed and fully benefit from school programs and resources. Bend-La Pine Schools integrates the principle of equity into all policies, operations, and resource allocations. This commitment to equity aligns with the district’s dedicated efforts to create a respectful and supportive work and learning environment for students, staff, and community members, including those from diverse cultures and those with limited English proficiency. The district values professionalism, cultural respect, and ethical conduct, expecting all employees to uphold high standards of behavior and foster positive relationships within the educational community.

The position of Nutrition Services Field Supervisor at Bend-La Pine Schools plays a vital role in supporting school meal operations across multiple district sites. Reporting to the Director of Nutrition Services, this leadership position involves hands-on supervision, operational oversight, and staff development to ensure meals are prepared and served safely, efficiently, and according to federal, state, and local regulations. The Field Supervisor acts as the critical link between individual school kitchens and the central Nutrition Services office, enhancing communication, operational consistency, and compliance through daily interaction and support. This role requires a strong understanding of school nutrition program requirements, food safety standards, inventory management, and the collaborative use of specialized software systems designed to streamline meal production, staffing, and compliance documentation.

Key responsibilities include monitoring daily kitchen operations such as food preparation, cooking, serving, point-of-sale procedures, sanitation, and documentation. The Supervisor provides coaching, training, and performance feedback to kitchen managers, leads, and other assigned staff to enhance skills, address performance concerns, and promote a positive work environment. They assist in scheduling and coverage management, recruitment and onboarding of new staff, and the implementation of department-wide procedures and operational improvements. Additionally, this position supports efforts to increase meal program participation and optimize the use of food, labor, equipment, and other resources, working closely with the Executive Chef and Nutrition Services leadership on menu implementation and recipe development.

The Field Supervisor also plays an important role in facilities planning, budget development, and long-term operational strategies, providing input on equipment needs and maintenance issues. The position involves regular travel between school sites and requires physical stamina to operate in commercial kitchen environments, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, and occasionally assisting with meal service. Administrative tasks involve extensive use of computers and software for communication, scheduling, production, compliance monitoring, and reporting.

Bend-La Pine Schools values diversity and encourages candidates from varied backgrounds to apply, emphasizing that meeting every qualification is not mandatory to be considered. The district expects staff to adhere to high standards of professionalism and confidentiality and to embody the mission and vision of the school system. Employment with Bend-La Pine Schools offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on student wellbeing through the vital service of supporting nutritious meal programs that contribute to a positive educational experience and overall student success.
