The Pastry Chef position is designed to assist the Executive Chef in managing the prepared foods section, specifically focusing on pastry production and merchandising. This full-time role encompasses various responsibilities, including production oversight, inventory management, merchandising, and ensuring sales and profit goals are achieved. The Pastry Chef also plays a significant role in menu planning by experimenting with new trends, developing new recipes, and enhancing the bakery offerings. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards are crucial aspects of this job. The chef will also support catering efforts by collaborating with the Catering Director and Executive Chef to develop menus that meet profitability targets while offering a variety of high-quality products.
Additionally, the position requires excellent customer service skills, the ability to work safely under fast-paced conditions, and the capacity to operate a cash register according to company policies, including handling multiple forms of payment. Physical demands such as prolonged standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and walking are part of the daily routine, so the candidate must be prepared for these aspects. Job Duties
- Responsible for production, ordering, merchandising, achieving goals on sales and profits, controlling inventory and out of stocks, sanitation, shrink, supplies, equipment, and safety
- assist with menu planning and development including creativity and experimentation with new trends and menu ideas and recipes to create exclusive pastries and expand offerings
- ensure compliance with health department and weights and measures requirements
- maintain open communication with all members of the kitchen and department manager
- work with Catering Director and Executive Chef on menu planning and facilitating production of catering menus to ensure profitability, variety and quality standards
- maintain a high degree of cleanliness throughout preparation area
- correctly operate a cash register including proper cash handling and all forms of tender per company policy
- perform all other related duties as assigned
